Peroxides with aldehydes

Antioxidants. The 1,2-dihydroquinolines have been used in a variety of ways as antioxidants (qv). For example, l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline along with its 6-decyl [81045-48-9] and 6-ethoxy [91-53-2] derivatives have been used as antio2onants (qv) and stabilizers (68). A polymer [26780-96-1] of l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline is used in resins, copolymers, lubricant oils, and synthetic fibers (69). These same compounds react with aldehydes and the products are useful as food antioxidants (70). A cross-linked polyethylene prepared with peroxides and other monomers in the presence of l,2-dihydro-6-ethoxyquinoline produces polymers with a chemically bonded antioxidant (71). [Pg.393]

Condensation with Aldehydes and Ketones. Succinic anhydride and succinic esters in the presence of different catalysts react in the gas phase with formaldehyde to give citraconic acid or anhydride and itaconic acid (94—96). Dialkyl acyl succinates are obtained by reaction of dialkyl succinates with C 4 aldehydes over peroxide catalysts (97). [Pg.535]

Cyclohexanol [108-93-0] M 100.2, m 25.2", b 161.1", d 0.946, n 1.466, n s 1.437, n 1.462. Refluxed with freshly ignited CaO, or dried with Na2C03, then fractionally distd. Redistd from Na. Further purified by fractional crystn from the melt in dry air. Peroxides and aldehydes can be removed by prior washing with ferrous sulfate and water, followed by distillation under nitrogen from 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, using a short fractionating column water distils as the azeotrope. Dry cyclohexanol is very hygroscopic. [Pg.179]

Polyethylene glycol [25322-68-3] various, from -200 to -35,000. May be contaminated with aldehydes and peroxides. Methods are available for removing interfering species. [Ray and Purathingal Anal Biochem 146 307 7955.]... [Pg.560]

Isopinocampheyl(l-isopinocampheyl-2-octenyl)borinic acid (1), available with a diastereomer-ic purity of approximately 80 85% de, reacts smoothly with aldehydes at —15 °C in tetrahy-drofuran to provide a homoallylic alcohol with 79-85% ee after oxidative workup (30% hydrogen peroxide, 40 °C)6. [Pg.326]

Other valuable substrates for the domino Knoevenagel/hetero-Diels-Alder reaction are chiral oxathiolanes such as 2-778, which are easily accessible by condensation of 2-thioacetic acid and a ketone in the presence ofpTsOH, followed by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide [390]. As described by Tietze and coworkers, the Knoevenagel condensation of 2-778 with aldehydes as 2-777 can be performed in... [Pg.165]

Another peculiarity of the aldehyde oxidation is connected with the chemistry of the primary molecular product of oxidation, acyl peracid. The formed peracid interacts with the aldehydes to form peroxide with the structure RC(0)OOCH(OH)R [4,5]. This peroxide is unstable and decomposes into acids and free radicals. [Pg.327]

The use of gaseous oxygen as an oxidant in ionic liquids also appears to be limited by its low solubility, for example, in [BMIM]PFg for the oxidation of aromatic aldehydes to give carboxylic acids 219). Hydrogen peroxide and organo-peroxide, with their higher solubilities, have been used efficiently for enzymatic oxidation 220). [Pg.208]

Acid-catalyzed condensation of bicyclic ozonides with aldehydes and ketones, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, leads to the formation of bicyclic peroxide analogs of acetals in low yields, as shown in equation 91 for the condensation of the ozonide of 1-phenylcyclopentene (266) with benzaldehyde. The structure of compound 267, with the preferred ring conformation as shown, was determined by XRD analysis . The same method served to demonstrate that the condensation compound 16c is unique, with structure 254 . [Pg.712]

Since ascorbate reduces photooxidation of lipid emulsions and multivitamin preparations (see Figure 4) [19], Lavoie et al. [34] studied the formation of oxidative by-products of vitamin C in multivitamins exposed to light. They found that the loss of ascorbic acid in photoexposed multivitamin preparations was associated with the generation of products other than dehydroascorbate and 2,3-diketogulonic acid, which are the usual products of vitamin C oxidation. The authors showed that hydrogen peroxide at concentrations found in TPN solutions induced the transformation of dehydroascorbate into new, biologically active compounds that had the potential to affect lipid metabolism. They believe that these species have peroxide and aldehyde functions [35]. [Pg.478]

Polyethylene glycol. May be contaminated with aldehydes and peroxides, removing interfering species. [Ray and Purathingal AB 146 307 1985]. [Pg.507]

The oxygen atom reacts with 02 to produce ozone. Both O and 03 react with organic materials to produce peroxides, hydroperoxides, aldehydes, and other toxic substances. An excellent review of the photochemistry of air pollution has been given by Leighton.278... [Pg.161]

The formation of organic peroxides as the primary intermediates in the oxidation of hydrocarbons has been definitely established. The degradation of these peroxides to aldehydes, ketones, carbon oxides, and olefins has also been experimentally proved. These facts bring the oxidation of hydrocarbons directly into line with the simpler and better known operations of chlorination, bromination, and nitration. [Pg.12]
