Perimeter area outside

Figure 2 shows a multiple-echo, intensity-weighted cyclohexane MRM image of a 300 pm cross-sectional slice of a 4 mm diameter coke bean. The density-weighted H images are collected with an unprocessed image resolution of 24 pm pixel"1. Since the coke is packed in wet gypsum, the area outside the coke shows very little cyclohexane intensity and appears black. Several feature arise from this image which complement the SEM images in Figure 1. Firstly, a dark band at the perimeter of the coke corresponds to the exterior shell depicted in deal in Figure lc. Keep in mind, however, that ranking facilities on this basis does not account for the impact of the potential hazards on surrounding communities. It may be that your most hazardous facilities are located in remote, unpopulated areas where there is little probability of any injuries outside the plant perimeter. [Pg.126]

High-permeability passive perimeter gas control systems entail the installation of highly permeable (relative to the surrounding soil) trenches or wells between the hazardous waste site and the area to be protected (Figure 16.6). The permeable material offers conditions more conductive to gas flow than the surrounding soil, and provides paths of flow to the points of release. High-permeability systems usually take the form of trenches or wells excavated outside the site, then backfilled with a highly permeable medium such as coarse crushed stone. [Pg.607]

The area between the outer perimeter and structures or buildings is known as the site. This open site area provides an incomparable opportunity for early identification of an unauthorized intruder and initiation of early warning/response. This open space area is commonly used to calculate the standoff distance that is, it is the distance between the outside perimeter (public areas to the fence) and the target or critical assets (buildings/structures) inside the perimeter (inside the fence line—the restricted access area). [Pg.156]

Drainage. Avoid drainage of any kind near the outside of the pond walls. Rain water, particularly, must drain away from the pond perimeter. If the pond is constructed in a high rainfall area, footer drains should be installed to keep runoff from infiltrating down around the walls of the pond. [Pg.192]

One of the considerations in selecting a site is whether or not the site is in a free trade zone (FTZ) and whether or not the FIZ meets the company s needs. FTZs are secured areas within the United States but they are legally considered outside the company s territory. The purpose is to attract and promote international trade and commerce. Foreign and domestic goods may be stored, manufactured, and processed duty-free in the FTZ, which is typically a fenced-in area with warehouse facilities and industrial park space and access to aU modes of transportation. Subzones, which fall beyond the perimeter of the public zone, are set up to accommodate industries that satisfy spedflc government criteria (e.g. abihty to generate public benefit through employment). [Pg.1489]

Roads and parking lot. A two-lane blacktop road runs from AEC Central Facilities to the MTR site. A parking lot is located outside the west perimeter fence directly adjacent to the main entrance gate. Two-lane blacktop roads provide access to all areas within the site that require vehicle services. A 10-ft-wide patrol road is provided along the inside of the perimeter fence. [Pg.32]

The plot plan originally conceived for the Idaho area, was considerably larger than the one shown in Fig. 9.1.A. The north-south dimension was slightly longer and the east-west dimension was approximately 900 ft longer. When economy forced a cut-back, of the facilities planned for the reactor, the site was decreased in size-. The sewage-treatnwnt plant remains in its original location, which is now outside the perimeter fence. As this plant is a potential source of odors, it is isolated-as much as is practical. [Pg.361]

If TA-V site evacuation is required, personnel are instructed to leave TA-V (on foot) through the perimeter gate. Personnel then can either use personal vehicles, which are parked outside TA-V, or if time permits, the SNIVNM transportation group will provide buses outside TA-V for the transport of personnel. In any event, a member of the SNL/NM Security Forces will escort vehicles from the area. Everyone must proceed to the designated assembly point to accomplish accountability checks and debriefings. [Pg.351]

Example 70-2 The supporting plate in Figure 10-3 will fail in shear if the head of the bolt pulls through the plate. To determine the safe load capacity of the plate, one uses Equations (10-1) and (10-2). The bolt carries a 110-lb load (see Example 10-1). The outside diameter of its head is Vi in and the perimeter is tt X Vi in. The thickness of the plate is 1/16 in. The shear area in the plate is x 0.5 X 0.0625 = 0.098 in. The actual shear stress is 110 lb/0.098in. = 1,122 Ib/in. If the plate is aluminum, the ultimate shear strength is about 35,000 Ib/in. from published tables. The plate will not fail in shear for the assumed load, because 35,000 Ib/in. is much greater than 1,122 Ib/in. ... [Pg.110]

Look at the areas of operation in your facility that might act as bottlenecks in the event of attack. Consider any chemicals, products, or items in your facility that might be used against your company or others. Once you ve looked at how you may be vulnerable, your next step is to find where. Assess your weakest points. Remember that it is much easier to control the perimeter of your property and keep would-be terrorists outside than it is to control them once they are on the inside. [Pg.309]

The outer perimeter of solubihty on the solubility chart of a polymer can be indicated by drawing a line outside all those solvents that dissolve the polymer. As the dispersion forces are much the weakest, this plot squeezes the less polar solvents into the bottom right comer and distorts the solubihty curve out of the circular shape, which is intuitively more likely. Because the solubihty parameters are additive, it is possible to mix two non-solvents of a polymer, at opposite sides of the soluble area, to create a combined solvent that will dissolve the polymer. This is reflected in Figure 2.19, where the solubihty parameters of mixtures do not fall on a straight line. [Pg.88]

The substation must be completely enclosed by a continuous ground wire. To protect individuals outside the substation who may come in contact with the substation fence, this perimeter wire should extend at least 1 m beyond the fence. This perimeter wire should also extend to include the area under gates when they are open as well as when they are closed. [Pg.427]

Volcanic and tectonic earthquakes located in the volcanic area (including some events located outside the perimeter of the network) are regularly used as sources for seismic tomography of volcanoes (Fig. lb). The major problem with earthquakes is that their location parameters (coordinates and origin times) are not exactly... [Pg.3120]
