At General Electric, it was found that very low additions ( < 1 wt%) of alkali or alkaline earth metal salts of certain arylsulfonates provide self-extinguishing performance to PC. Potassium diphenylsulfone sulfonate, sodium trichlorobenzene sulfonate, and potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate are effective in PC at one-tenth of a per cent level and these salts are used on a commercial scale. The salts are mostly active in the condensed phase where they strongly destabilize PC upon heating, thus promoting last decomposition and melt flow which removes heat. [Pg.450]

The 3M Company has developed a flame retardant based on potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate (PSBK) for use in clear polycarbonate. PSBK is effective at 0.08 wt% compared to the 8-10 wt% levels typically used for brominated species. [Pg.51]

Concentrations of PFCs in the Rhine River were monitored extensively in Germany and in the Netherlands as can be seen in Table 1. Background values for most PFCs were in the low ng/L range, i.e. <10 ng/L. Mainly, perfluorobutanoic acid (PFBA) and perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) were found in high concentrations in the Rhine, and PFOA and PFOS in other rivers. Other short chain PFCs ([Pg.80]

Nonsupported metal black catalysts were then used to eliminate the strong ESR signal from the carbon support. No radicals could be detected for perfluorobutane sulfonate nor for the Nafion ionomer dispersion presumably owing to the short lifetime of the radicals (Vogel et al. 2(X)7). With a DMPO spin trap, HO adduct can be easily observed in Fenton s test, while a small amount of HO, can also be detected. [Pg.72]
