Pendulum tester

Analyses of (PP/PE)-g-IA by the method of dynamic mechanical losses using the inverted torsion pendulum tester (47) show a lack of compatibility between amorphous phases of the polymeric components.

This test is conducted on coarse aggregates that are used for surfacing mixes. The PSV test determines the resistance of the coarse aggregate to the polishing action of vehicle tyres. The test consists of two parts in the first part, test specimens are subjected to a polishing action in an accelerated polishing machine. In the second part of the test, the state of polish reached by each specimen is measured using the Pendulum tester apparatus. The PSV is then calculated from the friction determinations.

The most common impact tester is a pendulum. A pendulum tester is divided into a beam (Charpy) type and a cantilever beam (Izod) type according to the way the sample sets. Samples either can have a gap or be without a gap. 

Several ASTM standards give methods of pavement testing and methods of result calculation. A British pendulum tester is used to measure surface frictional properties. The pendulum slider is positioned in contact with the tested surface which was previously thoroughly cleaned and wetted. The Mu-meter is a trailer towed by a vehicle. The tester measures the side force friction of pavement. The results are expressed as Mu numbers. Skid resistance of paved surfaces is measured by a tester developed by North Carolina State University. This tester is a pendulum tester using a smooth rubber tire. The friction between the tire and the specimen is measured from the energy lost in the pendulum. A standard specification for a smooth tire is covered in a separate standard. ...

The chip impact test is somewhat similar to the Izod impact test. The specimen can be tested using standard Izod pendulum tester. The chip impact test requires the use of a pendulum hammer type of device and a specimen holding fixture. The test specimens are usually 1 in. long x 1/2 in. wide and 0.065 in. thick. The specimens can be prepared either by injection or compression molding or by simply cutting them from a sheet. 

European standards " describe measurement of dynamic coeificient of friction on dry floor surfaces and determination of slip resistance by pendulum tester on natural stone.Measurement of dynamic coefficient of friction is done on a surface of resilient laminate and textile floor covering. Sliders are loaded with weights of 2 to 7 kg. They are pulled on a floor covering. The force required to pull slider is recorded and it is divided by the load to obtain dynamic coefficient of friction. " Stones intended to be used for flooring in buildings are tested by shd-ing of the standard rubber attached to the end of the pendulum. The frictional force is measured by deflection of pendulum. The slip resistance value is read from a scale.Pendulum tester is also used to determined slipperiness of floor according to Japanese standard.
