Packaging weighing

There are two principal types of package-weighing and -filling... 

The book PIHKAL (Phenethylamines I Have Known And Loved), A Chemical Love Story, is unusual in that it combines under one cover, an auto-biographical novel about a love triangle, and 30 years of scientific laboratory notes. The entire package weighs in at a hefty 978 pages, and is not padded. The unusual presentation is a reflection of the subject matter the chemistry of the human mind and the methodology of its exploration.

This twisting could have been carried out in the same plant where the yarn was spun, but the existence of silk throwsters (from the Anglo-Saxon thrawan, to twist or revolve) made that unnecessary. However, as the rayon industry developed, the amount of yam twisted in the producing plant or sent forward to throwsters decreased. Over the years the trend has been to use less twist and to place, instead, several thousand parallel ends directly on a beam, to form packages weighing as much... 

Toothpastes are packaged in flexible tubes, other flexible containers, and mechanically operated pump dispensers. They are usually extmded as cylindrical ribbons of a cohesive, smooth paste, approximately 2.54 cm in length and weighing approximately 1.5 g. New or modified dispensing devices are continually introduced to increase consumer interest. 

The weighing and proportioning of liquids and solids has also benefited from this technical revolution. Sensing devices and special-purpose computers give a level of precision and speed not possible in the era of elec tromechanical devices. The net result is that packaging and material handling systems now have the sophistication of chemical processes.
