It cannot be emphasized too strongly that dirt and correct lubrication are incompatible. The lubricant manufacturer has a comprehensive system of classification, filtration and inspection of packages, which ensures that all oils and greases leaving his plant are free from liquid and solid contaminants. It is in his own interests that the user should take the same care to ensure that the lubricant enters his machinery in as clean a condition as that in the bulk tank or barrel. The entry of abrasive dust, water and other undesirable matter into bearings and oilways may result if lubricants are handled carelessly. [Pg.884]

Sodium hydrosulfite is produced through the Formate process where sodium formate solution, sodium hydroxide, and liquid sulfur dioxide reacted in the presence of a recycled stream of methanol solvent. Other products are sodium sulfite, sodium bicarbonate, and carbon monoxide. In the reactor, sodium hydrosulfite is precipitated to form a slurry of sodium hydrosulfite in the solution of methanol, methyl formate, and other coproducts. The mixture is sent to a pressurized filter system to recover sodium hydrosulfite crystals that are dried in a steam-heated rotary drier before being packaged. Heat supply in this process is highly monitored in order not to decompose sodium hydrosulfite to sulfite. Purging is periodically carried out on the recycle stream, particularly those involving methanol, to avoid excessive buildup of impurities. Also, vaporized methanol from the drying process and liquors from the filtration process are recycled to the solvent recovery system to improve the efficiency of the plant. [Pg.944]

The electrical supply equipment is the second biggest equipment package after the mechanical equipment. The package includes the transformer/rectifier (T/R) sets and bus bars for providing DC power to the cells, the associated power factor correction equipment and harmonics filtration equipment, and the service transformers and circuitry. This equipment will typically comprise about 15 - 25 % of the cellhouse cost. The cost is heavily influenced by whether or not an electrical substation is included, and by the redundancy requirements for the T/R sets. A plant can choose to have no spare T/R capacity, partial redundancy, or full redundancy. Such cost savings must be weighed against the cost of lost production when a T/R set fails. [Pg.542]
