Outer mechanism

The low-temperature reaction rate constants are most sensitive to outer mechanical stresses causing, in particular, the plastic deformation and fracture [137]. [Pg.374]

A further interesting application of WAXD concerns the orientation of macromolecules in natural fibers, and in fibers of synthetic polymers drawn under the influence of an outer mechanical force. Fibers produce patterns that resemble those of single crystals of inorganic salts. Figure 6.11a and b illustrate, schematically, WAXD by a specimen with axial orientation, where the fiber axis is normal to the incident X-ray beam. Spot locations at the detector screen can be denoted by a radial distance from the primary beam, and by an azimuth /3 with respect to the meridian. [Pg.337]

Capillary Tubes Figure 12.42 shows a cross section of a typical capillary tube. Most capillary tubes are made from fused silica coated with a 20-35-)J,m layer of poly-imide to give it mechanical strength. The inner diameter is typically 25-75 )J,m, which is smaller than that for a capillary GC column, with an outer diameter of 200-375 )J,m. [Pg.601]

Iron(II) ediylenediaminetetraacetic acid [15651 -72-6] Fe(EDTA) or A/,Ar-l,2-ethaiiediylbis[A[-(carboxymethyl)glyciQato]ferrate(2—), is a colorless, air-sensitive anion. It is a good reducing agent, having E° = —0.1171, and has been used as a probe of outer sphere electron-transfer mechanisms. It can be prepared by addition of an equivalent amount of the disodium salt, Na2H2EDTA, to a solution of iron(II) in hydrochloric acid. Diammonium [56174-59-5] and disodium [14729-89-6] salts of Fe(EDTA) 2— are known. [Pg.439]

Materials and Reactions. Candle systems vary in mechanical design and shape but contain the same genetic components (Fig. 1). The candle mass contains a cone of material high in iron which initiates reaction of the soHd chlorate composite. Reaction of the cone material is started by a flash powder train fired by a spring-actuated hammer against a primer. An electrically heated wire has also been used. The candle is wrapped in insulation and held in an outer housing that is equipped with a gas exit port and rehef valve. Other elements of the assembly include gas-conditioning filters and chemicals and supports for vibration and shock resistance (4). [Pg.484]

Mechanical Gleaning. A cleaner is a hydrocyclone device utilizing fluid pressure to create rotational fluid motion (20). Pulp is introduced tangentially near the top of the cleaner. Contaminants denser than water such as chemically treated toner inks and sand migrate toward the outer wall of the cleaner and exit in a separate (reject) stream. For most forward cleaners, optimal ink removal efficiency is obtained at a pulp consistency of 0.2—0.3%. Most forward cleaners deinking efficiency declines at pulp feed consistencies greater than 0.4%. However, a cleaner said to be efficient at 1.2% pulp consistency has been reported (39). [Pg.8]

In 1979, a viable theory to explain the mechanism of chromium electroplating from chromic acid baths was developed (176). An initial layer of polychromates, mainly HCr3 0 Q, is formed contiguous to the outer boundary of the cathode s Helmholtz double layer. Electrons move across the Helmholtz layer by quantum mechanical tunneling to the end groups of the polychromate oriented in the direction of the double layer. Cr(VI) is reduced to Cr(III) in one-electron steps and a colloidal film of chromic dichromate is produced. Chromous dichromate is formed in the film by the same tunneling mechanism, and the Cr(II) forms a complex with sulfate. Bright chromium deposits are obtained from this complex. [Pg.143]

Integral (or extruded). An aluminum outer tube from which fins have been formed by extrusion, mechanically bonded to an inner tube or liner. [Pg.1079]
