Orange crush

Bisantrene (56), also known as orange crush", is a broad spectrum intercalating antitumor agent competing with doxorubicin and the somewhat more closely related quinone mitoxantrone (51)... [Pg.62]

Collect 2 kg of orange fruits randomly and use 1 kg for juice and the other 1 kg for pulp and rind. Prepare the juice by crushing oranges directly with a juicer mixer. [Pg.1289]

Garlic oil is obtained by steam distillation of crushed bulbs of the common garlic, Allium sativum L. it is a clear, reddish-orange liquid, with a strong, pungent, characteristic garlic odor. [Pg.172]

Diazotise 223 g. of 2-naphtliylamine-l-sulphonic acid as detailed under fi-Bromonaphthalene in Section IV,62. Prepare cuprous cyanide from 125 g. of cupric sulphate pentahydrate (Section IV,66) and dissolve it in a solution of 65 g. of potassium cyanide in 500 ml. of water contained in a 1-litre three-necked flask. Cool the potassium cuprocyanide solution in ice, stir mechanically, and add the damp cake of the diazonium compound in small portions whilst maintaining the temperature at 5-8°. Nitrogen is soon evolved and a red precipitate forms gradually. Continue the stirring for about 10 hours in the cold, heat slowly to the boiling point, add 250 g. of potassium chloride, stir, and allow to stand. Collect the orange crystals which separate by suction filtration recrystallise first from water and then from alcohol dry at 100°. The product is almost pure potassium 2-cyanonaphthalene-l-sulphonate. Transfer the product to a 2-litre round-bottomed flask, add a solution prepared from 400 ml. of concentrated sulphuric acid and 400 g. of crushed ice, and heat the mixture under reflux for 12 hours. Collect the -naphthoic acid formed (some of which sublimes from the reaction mixture) by suction filtration... [Pg.767]

Samarskite.—TYna tantaloniobate mineral has a widely varying composition, and was first discovered in the Urals. The presence of uranium in this mineral renders it radioactive. The presence of lead and helium has been detected. The ratio of lanthanides to yttrium is approximataly 1 6. In its crystal structure samarskite resembles yttrotantalite. Native crystals are brown, or velvet black, and become yellow orange when crushed showing pleochroism. [Pg.96]

Apple, pear, orange and grape juices are all clarified by ultrafiltration. Ultrafiltration of apple juice is a particularly successful application. Approximately 200 plants have been installed, and almost all US apple juice is clarified by this method. In the traditional process, crude filtration was performed directly after crushing the fruit. Pectinase was added to hydrolyze pectin, which reduced the viscosity of the juice before it was passed through a series of decantation and... [Pg.267]

Ferrous Fumarate occurs as a red-orange to red-brown powder. It may contain soft lumps that produce a yellow streak when crushed. It is soluble in water and in alcohol. [Pg.173]
