Optimal ratio

Distillation capital costs. The classic optimization in distillation is to tradeoff capital cost of the column against energy cost for the distillation, as shown in Fig. 3.7. This wpuld be carried out with distillation columns operating on utilities and not integrated with the rest of the process. Typically, the optimal ratio of actual to minimum reflux ratio lies in the range 1.05 to 1.1. Practical considerations often prevent a ratio of less than 1.1 being used, as discussed in Chap. 3. [Pg.349]

The PRDDO (partial retention of diatomic differential overlap) method is an attempt to get the optimal ratio of accuracy to CPU time. It has been parameterized for the periodic elements through Br, including the 3rd row transition metals. It was parameterized to reproduce ah initio results. PRDDO has been used primarily for inorganic compounds, organometallics, solid-state calculations, and polymer modeling. This method has seen less use than other methods of similar accuracy mostly due to the fact that it has not been incorporated into the most widely used semiempirical software. [Pg.36]

The above analysis is by no means an attempt to specify or establish some besf or optimal ratios for each pair of parameters. It is intended only to put into perspective the resources made available for drug regulation in relation to the society from which they are drawn. [Pg.52]

The optimization can be carried out using nonlinear optimization techniques such as SQP (see Chapter 3). The nonlinear optimization has the problems of local optima if techniques such as SQP are used for the optimization. Constraints need to be added to the optimization in order that a mass balance can be maintained and the product specifications achieved. The optimization of the side-rectifier and side-stripper in a capital-energy trade-off determines the distribution of plates, the reflux ratios in the main and sidestream columns and condition of the feed. If a partitioned side-rectifier (Figure ll.lOd) or partitioned side-stripper (Figure 11.lid) is to be used, then the ratio of the vapor flowrates on each side of the partition can be used to fix the location of the partition across the column. The partition is located such that the ratio of areas on each side of the partition is the same as the optimized ratio of vapor flowrates on each side of the partition. However, the vapor split for the side-rectifier will only follow this ratio if the pressure drop on each side of the partition is the... [Pg.222]

To have a mixture N0 + N02 at the SCR catalyst intake, the presence of a DOC upstream of the system is required (oxidation of NO into N02). The DOC must be sized according to the optimal ratio NO/N02 = 1. [Pg.228]

The first type of materials, i.e. KOH activated carbons constitute an interesting class of capacitor electrodes due to their highly developed surface area of the order of 3000 m2/g. Especially, inexpensive natural precursors are well adapted for this process. The activation process is strongly affected by the C KOH ratio, temperature and time. The optimal ratio seems to be 4 1 and the temperature for activation ca. 800°C. The total activation process is quite complicated and proceeds via different pathways and by-products. The... [Pg.29]

Experiments aimed at determining the optimal ratio of the components in the composite were conducted. The maximum capacity corresponds to a 1 1 wt ratio while the 7 3 and 3 7 electrodes show a somewhat lower capacity. [Pg.289]

Add a quantity of the SCN-Bzl-DTPA bifunctional chelating agent to obtain the desired molar excess of label over the amount of dendrimer present. The optimal ratio may be determined experimentally by preparing a series of dendrimer-chelate conjugates using different molar ratios and choosing the one that works the best in the intended application. [Pg.384]

Add 10 mg of the protein to be coupled to the dextran solution. Other ratios of dextran-to-protein may be used as appropriate. For instance, if more than one protein or a protein plus a smaller molecule are both to be conjugated to the dextran backbone, the amount of protein added initially may have to be scaled back to allow the second molecule to be coupled latter. Many times, a small molecule such as a drug will be coupled to the dextran polymer first, and then a targeting protein such as an antibody conjugated secondarily. The optimal ratio of components forming the dextran conjugate should be determined experimentally to obtain the best combination possible. [Pg.953]

This process can be tailored to maximize the hydrogen production while capturing C02, or the ratio between CO and H2 in the product stream can be adjusted for different applications. For example, the optimal ratio of H2 to CO is 2 for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. [Pg.583]

We can see from Figure 3 that the moderate deficit of I, Co, Zn, Cu, Mo, B, and Mn with optimal ratios of trace metals to I and Si, is characteristic for all links of a biogeochemical food web. These biogeochemical peculiarities favor the optimal physiological regulation of exchange processes in animal and human organisms. However, a moderate deficit of essential trace nutrients weakens the human immune... [Pg.99]

The observed calcium/phosphate ratio of 4.5 at the intercept of the calcium and phosphate retention curves that should minimize the sum of the urine calcium plus urine phosphate losses was difficult to believe in view of both the known Ca/P ratio of bone and the amounts we were adding to these solutions. This disparity between the optimal ratio determined experimentally and what we had assumed this ratio should be on the basis of known body composition is partially reconciled by the experiment of Sutton and Barltrop. They fed preterm infants stable Ca46 and observed that up to 20% of the isotope absorbed was subsequently excreted in the stool. Our infants also were undoubtedly having unmeasured calcium losses from the bile, pancreatic juice and succus entericus secreted into their intestine... [Pg.49]

The separation of synthetic red pigments has been optimized for HPTLC separation. The structures of the pigments are listed in Table 3.1. Separations were carried out on silica HPTLC plates in presaturated chambers. Three initial mobile-phase systems were applied for the optimization A = n-butanol-formic acid (100+1) B = ethyl acetate C = THF-water (9+1). The optimal ratios of mobile phases were 5.0 A, 5.0 B and 9.0 for the prisma model and 5.0 A, 7.2 B and 10.3 C for the simplex model. The parameters of equations describing the linear and nonlinear dependence of the retention on the composition of the mobile phase are compiled in Table 3.2. It was concluded from the results that both the prisma model and the simplex method are suitable for the optimization of the separation of these red pigments. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that the components of the mobile phase interact with each other [79],... [Pg.374]

There have been many reports of variants of PtRu based on novel preparation chemistry or novel support materials showing superior activity to commercially available PtRu catalysts. These have been recently reviewed by Liu et al. One interesting feature of this work is that the PtRu atomic ratio used has been fixed at 1 1 (e.g., Chu and Gilman and Takasu et al. ). However, this ratio disagrees with the optimal ratios determined from bulk PtRu alloys. [Pg.48]

The extracts of the female sex pheromone gland of the sandthorn car-penterworm moth, Holcocerus hippophaecolus Hua (Lepidoptera Cossi-dae), were found to contain ( )-3-tetradecenyl acetate, (Z )-3-tetradecenyl acetate, (Z )-7-tetradecenyl acetate, the corresponding alcohols and E)-9-tetradecenyl acetate. A combination of field trials and experiments were done to conclude that the sex pheromone of H. hippophaecolus is composed of (Z )-7-tetradecenyl acetate and (T)-3-tetradecenyl acetate. Optimal ratios and doses of these two and the possible role of other minor components remain to be determined. [Pg.306]

The optimal weight ratio of LAH4-L1 to siRNA for transfection was determined previously as 10 1. A range of different ratios should be tried for other peptides if the optimal ratio has not been determined. [Pg.85]

Laser therapy in combination with efferent methods of detoxification effectively eliminates AChR antibodies from blood and restores an optimal ratio between discocytes and pathological forms of erythrocytes. On the basis of our data, plasmapheresis can be recommended for use together with the endovascular laser blood irradiation, ELBl in treatment of myasthenia. The duration of ELBl should not exceed 30 min. [Pg.314]

CLA as An Antioxidant. The complete mechanism of anticarcinogenic activity of CLA is not known. Some of the CLA effect is believed due to its antioxidant properties. For example, use of a water/ethanol system that is incubated at 40"C under air for 14 days, showed CLA reduced the oxidation of linoleic acid by 86% (8), Under the same conditions a-tocopherol reduced oxidation by only 63% and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) reduced oxidation by 92%. Dose-response studies were conducted, and it was found that the optimal ratio for CLA to protect linoleic acid from oxidation is 1 1000 (CLAilinoleic acid). [Pg.269]
