Appearance sensitivity

The spot-test technique is as follows. Mix a drop of 15-20 per cent sulphuric acid and a drop of the test solution either on a spot plate or in a porcelain micro crucible. After a few minutes add 1 drop of 3 per cent hydrogen peroxide solution and then another drop, if necessary. A red to pink colouration appears. Sensitivity 2 5 xg V. Concentration limit 1 in 20,000. 

Acute oral LD50 values in birds range from 200 to 564 mg kg Diquat is moderately to practically nontoxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. The 8 h LC50 for diquat was 12-29mgl in two fish species. The 96 h LC50 was 16-245 mgl in six species of fish. Yellow perch appear sensitive to concentrations of diquat found during control of aquatic vegetation. There is little or no bioconcentration of diquat in aquatic species. Diquat is practically nontoxic to honey bees. 

Unlike other animals, the dog appears sensitive to chlorphenoxy herbicides, such as 2,4-D the dog s oral LD50 to 2,4-D is 100 mg kg body weight. Ventricular fibrillation is the cause of death in severely poisoned dogs. Ingestion of sublethal doses induces stiff extremities, ataxia, myotonia, paralysis, coma, and subnormal temperatures. 

Sample dissolution for ETAAS is preferably done using HNO3 or HNO3-H2O2. The method does not tolerate presence of perchloric and hydrofluoric acids. The presence of other acids in the final digests should also be avoided. Otherwise interferences may appear, sensitivity is reduced as well as the lifetime of the atomizer is shortened. Therefore the introduction of solid samples has been an object of permanent interest in ETAAS.

For a recent review see Dobbins (1982). IgA provides an immunological barrier against deleterious interactions of the body with food antigens absorbed through the intestine. Antibodies in the intestine appear to slow the absorption of specific protein antigens (Walker et al., 1974) and, may permit more complete digestion of protein. Impaired secretory IgA immunity may therefore lead to less efficient uptake of protein, especially in the neonate. The secretory IgA immune response appears sensitive to nutritional influence (McMurray et al., 1977). 

It should be stressed that both SO2 toxicity and lichen metabolism are little understood at present, which makes the interpretation of results difficult. To date every process examined appears sensitive so there may be some basic metabolic control which is disrupted and what we are recording are the results of this disruption.

Thus, at high field (500 MHz) the alkyl protons in poly(methyl-n-hexylsilylene) are well resolved and assigned using 2D spectra. The spectra provide information about the microstructure and the Si spectra appear sensitive to stereochemical configuration at least to the pentad level.
