Complex flow-sheeting programs, that simulate the operation and a complete process, or individual units, have been developed by several commercial software organisations. The names of the principal packages available, and the contact address, are listed in Table 4.1. Many of the commercial programs have been made available by the proprietors to university and college departments for use in teaching, at nominal cost.

The platform governance will rely on a steering committee composed of financial backers and a scientific board. The steering committee will be responsible for the realisation of the tests operated by CEA as proprietor of the platform. Particular agreement between members of the governance boards will have to deal with confidentiality and intellectual property rights.

One advantage of the sole proprietorship is that it is the simplest and least expensive to establish and operate. An example of simplicity is that U.S. income tax reporting consists of completing one tax schedule (Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business) for inclusion with the proprietor s personal tax return. Furthermore, there is maximum freedom of action in that the owner is the boss and can act unilaterally in all decisions. Being a sole proprietor is enabled by the internet and its communication and research resources.
