A computational fluid dynamics process can be divided into three steps pre-processing, flow computation, and post-processing (Fig. 8.1). The users are faced with a multitude of commercial programs for each step. Newcomers in particular find it difficult to choose a suitable program, in part because the development of codes is advancing at a rapid pace. For many years, www.cfd-online.com has provided an excellent overview of CFD (suppliers, literature, further links). [Pg.140]

For the calculation of thermodynamic equilibria the Gibbs energy of the system is minimized at given temperature and pressure as a function of the composition of all the reactants and reaction intermediates. Boundary conditions are the amounts of the reactants that enter the reactor. Also the stoichiometric coefficients of the reactions are constraints in the minimization. Commercial programs for routine thermodynamic calculations are SOLGASMIX, CHEMSAGE, or HSC. [Pg.213]

There are commercial programs for solving the above type of minimization. They provide not only the estimates of the unknown parameters but also their variances and the correlation coefficients between them. Instead of going into details of such evaluations, only a couple of remarks will be made concerning the minimum of that is characteristic of the goodness of fit. [Pg.450]

Other commercial programs for finding suitable molecular alignments exist,44 [jyt cannot be reviewed because their algorithms are not yet published. [Pg.187]

New York, NY 10020] In the case described in Section 23.1.2. Jay has written the report to suit the boss, and the company has gone ahead with an ambitious commercialization program for Catalyst A. For comparison between the analysis methods the results of laser diffraction and wet sieving were imported in a commercial program for matrix calculation and presentation in figures 5-8. [Pg.448]

The similarity of the retrieved protons to those of the query structure, and the distribution of chemical shifts among protons with the same HOSE codes, can be used as measures of prediction reliability. When common substructures cannot be found for a given proton (within a predefined number of bond spheres) interpolations are applied to obtain a prediction proprietary methods are often used in commercial programs. [Pg.522]

Appllca.tlons. The principal appHcations of nickel-base superalloys are in gas turbines, where they are utilized as blades, disks, and sheet metal parts. Abcraft gas turbines utilized in both commercial and military service depend upon superalloys for parts exposed to peak metal temperatures in excess of 1000°C. Typical gas turbine engines produced in the United States in 1990 utilized nickel and cobalt-base superalloys for 46% of total engine weight (41). However, programs for future aerospace propulsion systems emphasize the need for lightweight materials having greater heat resistance. For such apphcations, intermetallics matrix composites and ceramic composites are expected to be needed. [Pg.123]

There are no commercially available computer programs for LEED /-Vstructure determinations. Most programs and their documentation can, however, be downloaded from the internet or are distributed by the authors [2.271]. [Pg.82]

With current computer technology there are several commercial programs available (as well as personal and private) that perform tray-to-tray stepwise calculations up or dovm a column, using the latest vapor pressure, K-val-ues, and heat data for the components. This then provides an accurate analysis at each tray (liquid and vapor ancJy-sis) and also the heat duty of the bottoms reboiler and overhead total or partial condenser. [Pg.71]

API AO alternative to phosphate-cycle program for commercial, HVAC and light industrial markets (15 to 150 psig)... [Pg.461]

The above data base is systematically modified to force the program to its limits. For example, the number of measurements is multiplied by entering each datum several times instead of only once, etc. That this step is necessary is shown by the authors occasional experience that commercial programs as simple as a sorting routine would only work with the supplied demonstration data file. [Pg.173]

Commercial program packages that either propose phenomenological models or fit a given model to data are easily available such equations, along with the found coefficients can be entered into program TESTFIT. It is strictly forbidden to associate the found coefficients with physicochemical factors unless there is a theoretical basis for a particular model. [Pg.210]

There are various reasons for replacing tabulated values by numerical approximations, chief among them to be able to automate the table look-up to save time and to present aspects that otherwise would go unnoticed. Commercial programs like Microsoft Excel feature many of the important statistical functions the file EXCEL FNC.xls that is provided with this manuscript shows how some functions are applied. The algorithms that are employed are very accurate, but not accessible as such. Eor the applications demonstrated in this work, appropriate approximations are incorporated into the VisualBasic programs that accompany the book. [Pg.329]
