Operational excellence objectives

Corporations generally set broad quality goals and leave the path to achievement to the discretion of the individual business units. However, these broad goals do not lead directly to results. They must first be deployed to lower levels of the organization via division and subdivision of the objectives until they identify specific activities to be carried out and allocation of responsibility for performing those activities. Execution of the activities incorporated in this program collectively results in improving operational excellence. 

To achieve and sustain world class performance, we must develop strong capability in operational excellence throughout (Company B). This requires active leadership and the entire workforce to be engaged. We must develop a culture where everyone believes that all incidents are preventable and that zero incidents is achievable. With engaged and committed leadership, effective processes and an OE culture, we can achieve our objectives in operational excellence. 

Set clear, specific, measurable objectives for operational excellence. Communicate frequently with all members of the workforce on the objectives, measures, plans, and progress. Regularly recognize progress on indicators and achievement of results. 

Developing a global operational excellence (OE) information management system is a long-term commitment. Much like the enterprise-wide financial information systems that most large companies have installed over the last few decades, it represents the work of many years, not months, and is a very large undertaking and because of the nature of the OE objectives—there are no shortcuts. 

An organization s highest priority is to achieve operational excellence across all facets of its operations, cost effectively and in a manner that achieves objectives safely and without harm to the environment. Every organization is responsible to its stakeholders, the community and its own workforce to maintain a high level of excellence and value. Every organization must strive to maximize efficiency and effectiveness through constant improvement. 

Our objective is not to set new standards, but to encourage companies and individuals to apply existing standards and the operational discipline necessary to establish their own internal requirements that support business excellence. The Excel Solver. Microsoft Excel, beginning with version 3.0 in 1991, incorporates an NLP solver that operates on the values and formulas of a spreadsheet model. Versions 4.0 and later include an LP solver and mixed-integer programming (MIP) capability for both linear and nonlinear problems. The user specifies a set of cell addresses to be independently adjusted (the decision variables), a set of formula cells whose values are to be constrained (the constraints), and a formula cell designated as the optimization objective. The solver uses the spreadsheet interpreter to evaluate the constraint and objective functions, and approximates derivatives, using finite differences. The NLP solution engine for the Excel Solver is GRG2 (see Section 8.7). 

The main objective of FP6 is to contribute to the creation of a true "European Research Area" (ERA). ERA is a vision for the future of research in Europe, an internal market for science and technology. It fosters scientific excellence, competitiveness and innovation through the promotion of better co-operation and coordination between relevant actors at all levels.
