Operating rules

Very often in experimental sciences and engineering functions and their derivatives are available only through their numerical values. In particular, through measurements we may know the values of a function and its derivative only at certain points. In such cases the preceding operational rules for derivatives, including the chain rule, can be apphed numerically. [Pg.442]

Violation Error/Failure A violation error occurs when an intended action is made which deliberately ignores known operational rules, restrictions, or procedures. However, this definition excludes actions that are deliberately intended to harm the system, which come within the category of sabotage. [Pg.42]

I.I. The Traditional Safety Engineering (TSE) View The traditional safety engineering view is the most commonly held of these models in the CPI (and most other industries). As discussed in Chapter 1, this view assumes that human error is primarily controllable by the individual, in that people can choose to behave safely or otherwise. Unsafe behavior is assumed to be due to carelessness, negligence, and to the deliberate breaking of operating rules and procedures designed to protect the individual and the system from known risks. [Pg.255]

Violation An error that occurs when an action is taken that contravenes known operational rules, restrictions, and/or procedures. The definition of violations excludes actions taken to intentionally harm the system (i.e., sabotage). [Pg.414]

Three operations were carried out without causing any incident and by sticking to the operating rules and quantities recommended in the literature. A fourth attempt caused the equipment to detonate. [Pg.275]

Definition of operational rules for the reservoir E801 (those relating stored volume with deliveries, to be implemented in SWAT), which were not available, and therefore were computed during the calibration period (1962-1983) using the observed monthly deliveries and stored volumes. [Pg.66]

The model was run at a daily time-step using the parameters obtained during calibration. Releases of water from La Sotonera and Ardisa reservoirs were calculated using reservoir operational rules inferred from agricultural demand [45],... [Pg.314]

Figure 20.9 shows a typical optimisation trajectory found by the model for one load and power price combination. The starting point for the raw and recycle brine is based on current plant operating rules and appears as 100% on the flow axes. Subsequently the model varies the brine flows and runs to a new steady-state solution. The modelling package has a built-in optimisation routine which controls the searching process as dictated by the cost function, which is the price per unit of chlorine. In the case illustrated by Fig. 20.9 it requires eight runs to find the optimal solution. [Pg.268]

Network A is huilt of n basic systems, and all the reactions take place in a fed-batch reactor. As such, the analytical model developed for network A is an extension of the model developed for the basic system (see Section 4.1.3.1). Based on the principles detailed in Section 4.1.3.1, the operational rules of network A are described by... [Pg.81]

On the relativistic quantum level, the Einstein equation becomes the van der Waerden equation [ 1,68] with the usual operator rules... [Pg.142]

Analytical methodologies and measuring instruments are the tools for obtaining reliable data on the composition of the material objects being studied. The science of the construction and operating rules of measuring instruments is often referred to as instrumentation. The successive stages in the development of this science are easily discernible. [Pg.432]

The following operational rules derived from the above will be found very convenient ... [Pg.18]

This second selection rule can be rationalized by introducing two new operators the raising operator F+, which can raise P to a, but cannot operate on a, and the lowering operator, which can lower a to p, but cannot operate on p. (We will need to use only the raising operator.) The operation rules are as follows ... [Pg.306]

To solve for this system of three equations, we begin by following the three elementary operations rules above ... [Pg.15]

After link templates have been defined, operational forward, backward, and correspondence analysis rules can be derived following the TGG approach (see d) of Fig. 6.5). If the link templates are restricted to using only context and non-context nodes connected by edges, this derivation can be performed automatically. If further graph transformation language constructs (such as paths, set-valued nodes, etc.) are used, not all operational rules are deterministic. As non-determinism is not supported by our rule execution approach, in this case the TGG rules have to be postprocessed manually. This is done by the tool builder, as only few domain knowledge is required. Another manual task is necessary, if attribute assignments have been defined that cannot be inverted to match the derived rule s direction. [Pg.617]

The operation rules are, therefore, insufficient in themselves to produce a flexible expert system. They need to be augmented by type rules which express more general knowledge about the algebra of the data types. Seven such type rules are given in figure 4 and are described below ... [Pg.352]

We shall define a preparation as unambiguous and the resulting ensemble as consisting of identically prepared systems that are in a state 0 and that are subject to the predictions of the present unified theory if and only if the subdivision of the ensemble prior to measurement into two or more subensembles, according to any conceivable operational rule, will always result in each subensemble being in the same state j3 in other words, the statistics of measurements performed on any subensemble after subdivision will be representable by the same density operator p as the statistics of the overall ensemble. [Pg.271]

It is customary to revolve the drums very slowly at first but, as germination proceeds, the speed of rotation is gradually stepped up. No definite operating rules can be set up since germinating... [Pg.76]
