On-page links

On-page links send a signal to Google that you have chosen a primary page to rank for each keyword. In order to do this, you need to build links throughout your site by linking the intended keyword to the intended page. 

You probably know that compounds called chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are responsible for depleting the ozone layer in Earth s stratosphere. Did you know, however, that CFCs do their destructive work by acting as homogeneous catalysts Use the Internet to find out how CFCs catalyze the decomposition of ozone in the stratosphere. Although ephedrine has been sold for decades, it has recently been reported that this drug is potentially quite dangerous. Ephedrine use has been linked to numerous heart attacks and strokes (see the box on pages 68-69) and was officially banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February 2004. However, prior to its ban, it was estimated that 12 to 17 million Americans were consuming ephedrine-containing products at an estimated 3 billion doses per year.

High polymers contain giant molecules which are built up from a large number of similar (but not necessarily identical) units (or monomers) linked by primary valence bonds. Polymerisation reactions can be performed either in the bulk of the monomer material or in solution. A further technique, emulsion polymerisation, which permits far greater control over the reaction, is discussed on page 16.

Polymers which arc not cross-linked to form infinite networks can behave elastically under transient stressing conditions. They cannot sustain prolonged loads, however, because the molecules can flow past each other to relieve the stress, and the shape of the article will be deformed by this creep process. The sulfasalazine molecule comprises sulfa-piridine and 5-aminosalicylic acid linked by an azo-bond which is split by colonic bacteria, releasing the component parts. Sulfapiridine, as a sulphonamide, has an antifolate action which is believed to benefit rheumatoid arthritis, while it is the salicylate moiety that is thought to be effective in inflammatory bowel disease a fuller description appears on page 64. Sulfasalazine is used as a DMARD for rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathy with peripheral joint involvement, and psoriatic arthritis. 

Follow-up on vanished companies and products is difficult, unless they are acquired (Table 2). For example. Biotech Research Laboratories and their peptide nucleic acid oligos (PNAs) were acquired by Boston Biomedica, Inc. Tracking BRL and its specifically targeted PNAs to BBI is simplified by web-page links, which are easy to follow for the reader with a modest knowledge of computer use. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains a Web site to provide information related to AIDS and HIV. Use your Web browser to connect to http //cheiTiistry.brookscole.com/skoogfac/. From the Chapter Resource Menu, choose Web Works. Locate the Chapter 11 section, and click on the link to the CDC Web site. Use the search facility at the CDC site to locate pages containing information on testing for HIV. You will find that various types of immunoassay are useful for HIV testing. What are these immunoassay types Then use Google to search the Web for these types of immunoassay. What physical or chemical properties are used in the immunoassays What are the chemical principles behind these methods ... 

Go to http //chemistry.brookscole.com/skoogfac/. From the Chapter Resources menu, choose Web Works. Locate the Chapter 34 section, click on the link for NIST, and find the pages dealing with Standard Reference Materials (SRMs). Look under Health Care and Nutrition. Find the Clinical Laboratory Materials available as SRMs. Find the information on glucose in frozen human serum and look up the Certificate of Analysis. Determine the relative uncertainties (as defined by NIST) of the glucose concentrations in mg/dL for the three different levels available. 

At box (4), we look for a link between Sj and j- -a mean stress producing a rate of reduction in volume. As discussed on page 50, the more familiar effect is that a mean stress produces a reversible elastic reduction in volume that does not change with time.
