Officer pools

Late in 1941, when commissioned officers were in short supply, pools were sponsored by the War Department, especially in order to insure availability of filler and loss replacements as needed. The pools at first were therefore associated with replacement centers and were in fact designated as replacement pools. The CWS was initially authorized a pool strength of 150 officers. This quota thus became included in officer procurement ob- 

The administration of CWS officer pools was complicated by the fact that the excessively populated pools were located in fifteen different places in the zone of interior. The maintenance of a centralized and uniform control of these groups presented serious difficulties which never were fully resolved. At Camp Sibert the operation of the local pool became a responsibility of the Unit Training Center. Some effort was made to centralize the administration of all pools from Sibert, although this scheme was later dropped and the co-ordination of pool activities was resumed by the office of the Chief, CWS. In these matters, both Personnel and Training Divisions were concerned. The responsibility of each organization was clear-cut Per-

Acryhcs and modacryhcs are also useflil industrial fibers. Fibers low in comonomer content, such as Dolan 10 and Du Font s PAN Type A, have exceptional resistance to chemicals and very good dimensional stabihty under hot—wet conditions. These fibers are useflil in industrial filters, battery separators, asbestos fiber replacement, hospital cubical curtains, office room dividers, uniform fabrics, and carbon fiber precursors. The exceUent resistance of acryhc fibers to sunlight also makes them highly suitable for outdoor use. Typical apphcations include modacryhcs, awnings, sandbags, tents, tarpauhns, covers for boats and swimming pools, cabanas, and duck for outdoor furniture (59). 

The next day, I am in my office sitting restlessly in front of my computer, fielding too many questions over e-mail. I feel overworked and short on time. A quick glance at the clock tells me that I am late again for swim practice so I grab my bag, skip downstairs, step outside, jump on my bike, and pedal to the pool. Usually swimming in the middle of the day alters my state of mind dramatically.

Five minutes after the outbreak of the earthquake,the veneer ceiling turned black, generated white smoke at several points, and soon caught fire. The fire services office together with the local fire defense brigade made effort to stop the fire, but, because the hydraulic pressure was only half of the normal, the fire could only be extinguished two hours later by using three water pools.

Eijkman, Christiaan (1858-1930) Nordic Physician Christiaan Eijkman was born on August 11, 1858, at Nijkerk in Gelderland (the Netherlands) to Christiaan Eijkman, the headmaster of a local school, and Johanna Alida Pool. He received his education at his father s school in Zaandam. In 1875 he entered the Military Medical School of the University of Amsterdam and received training as a medical officer for the Netherlands Indies Army. From 1879 to 1881 he wrote his thesis On Polarization of the Nerves, which gained him his doctor s degree, with honors, on July 13, 1883. On a trip to the Indies he caught malaria and returned to Europe in 1885. 

The presence of institutions (such as hospitals, nursing homes, retirement centers, schools, day-care centers, and prisons) parks and recreational areas (such as stadiums and swimming pools) and major commercial, office, and industrial buildings (such as shopping malls and industrial parks) within the circle. Some schools and hospitals are shown on U.S. Geological Survey maps, and the locations of other concentrations of population generally may be found on local street maps. The EPA standard does not require a determination of the population at these locations. 

From 1942. onwards the British and the Americans pooled their resources on biological warfare in much the same way as they did on the atomic bomb. In the spring of 1942, for example, an American liaison officer arrived at Porton Down. American officers attended the trials on Gruinard and even made a film of the successful experiment. (The film is still held in Porton s archives.)... 

Regional offices, in developing nations in particular, play another key role besides granting patent applications. They allow for the integration of services and free flow of information. ARIPO was mainly established to pool the resources of its member countries in industrial property matters to avoid duplication of financial and human resources [88].
