Octadecyl ether

Vinyl Ethers. The principal commercial vinyl ethers are methyl vinyl ether (methoxyethene, C H O) [107-25-5], ethyl vinyl ether (ethoxyethene, C HgO) [104-92-2], and butyl vinyl ether (1-ethenyloxybutane, C H 20) [111-34-2]. (See Table 8 for physical properties.) Others such as the isopropyl, isobutyl, hydroxybutyl, decyl, hexadecyl, and octadecyl ethers, as well as the divinyl ethers of butanediol and of triethylene glycol, have been offered as development chemicals (see Ethers). [Pg.114]

Weil et al. [58] studied the hydrolysis of sodium hexadecyl ether (1 PrO) and octadecyl ether (1 PrO) sulfates in comparison to sodium octadecyl ether (1 EO) sulfate and sodium hexadecyl sulfate, and determined the kinetic constant ( j) for the first-order equation ... [Pg.233]

The hydrolysis of 0.05 N surfactant solutions was carried out in 0.05 N HC1 solution at 80°C. These constants demonstrate that propoxylated sulfates are less stable than those ethoxylated and all them less stable than alcohol sulfates. The time for 50% hydrolysis was 92 min for sodium hexadecyl ether (1 PrO) sulfate, 98 min for sodium octadecyl ether (1 PrO) sulfate, 136 min for sodium octadecyl ether (1 EO) sulfate, and 187 min for sodium hexadecyl sulfate... [Pg.233]

The addition of ethylene oxide to the alcohol causes a decrease in the melting point of the corresponding salt of the alcohol ether sulfate in comparison with the same alcohol sulfate. Weil et al. [65] prepared pure hexadecyl and octadecyl ether alcohols from the corresponding alkyl bromide and glycols with... [Pg.235]

Ethoxylation of the base alcohol always improves the solubility of the sulfate. As an example, sodium hexadecyl ether (2 EO) sulfate gives a clear 10% solution in water at 40°C, which becomes a viscous gel at 30°C [59]. Alcohol ether sulfates are also more soluble in organic solvents than the corresponding alcohol sulfates. Sodium hexadecyl and octadecyl ether (2 EO) sulfates are soluble at 1% concentration in lubricating oil, at 2.5% in benzene and chloroform, and at 5% in tetrachloroethylene, whereas alcohol-ethoxylated sulfates with 10 mol of ethylene oxide are soluble at 5% in lubricating oil [59]. [Pg.238]

Different shapes of CdS nanomaterials such as quasi-nanospheres, nanoshuttles and nanotubes have been prepared in the w/o microemulsion system of nonionic surfactant (Tween-80, polyetheneoxy(20)octadecyl ether, polyoxyethylele(9)dodecyl ether (C12E9) or Tx-100)/ -pentanol/aqueous so-lution/cyclohexane [191]. Another kind of QDs, PbS, have also been prepared in nonionic CnEg/water/cyclohexane microemuisions [192]. [Pg.213]

Arosurf MG83 is comprised of A-tridecyloxy-propyl-1, 3-propylene diamine acetate. It belongs to ether amine collector. Ether amine refers to the nonpolar hydrocarbon chain containing the O atom of ether. Based on the flotation results of hematite using various ether amines and fatty amines [21], it can be obtained that the collecting performance of octadecyl ether amine is as same as that of tetradecyl amine. The collecting performance of tetradecyl ether amine is as same as that of dodecyl amine. The collecting performance of dodecyl ether amine is relatively weak. [Pg.108]

Vinyl octadecyl ether was the first vinyl ether to be polymerized commercially and boron trifluoride was used as the catalyst [17]. The polymerization was carried out at 90°-95°C, and low molecular weight polymers were obtained with K values of 20-30, m.p. 50°C (white, brittle solid). Other similar products were suggested in patents by I. G. Farbenindustrie, and also the copolymerization with maleic anhydride was mentioned. [Pg.240]

The origin of the research and discussion of the thermotropic cubic liquid crystalline phase may be dated as 1957, in which Gray et al. [1] published the results of the investigations of compounds la-2 and la-4 in Table 1 and explained For the hexadecyl and octadecyl ether the changes occurring on heating are solid-smectic I-smectic II-... [Pg.1900]

The crown-PEG derivative is of interest in our phase-transfer studies discussed below. The octadecyl ether and amine were designed to replace the corresponding ester in phase partitioning studies. The ester is limited in that it is highly susceptible to bacterial degradation. [Pg.376]
