Stearyl bromide (5.5 mmol) and triphenylphosphine (5.8 mmol) were heated under reflux for 20 hours in 30 mL anhydrous xylene. Upon completion of the reaction (as monitored by thin-layer chromatography) the solvent was removed followed by purifying the obtained crude yellowish oil by silica gel column chromatography using methanohchloroform (5 95) as an eluent. Purified STPP, obtained as colorless oil, crystallized on standing and was recrystallized from ether to yield pure STPP in 35% to 45 /o yields. [Pg.322]

The polyoxyethylene alkyl ethers are a series of polyoxyethylene glycol ethers of n-alcohols (lauryl, oleyl, myristyl, cetyl, and stearyl alcohol). Of the large number of different materials commercially available, four types are listed in the USPNF 23, one type in the JP 2001, and four types in the PhEur 2005. Relative retention time (RRt) is defined as the ratio of the analyte and the reference compound s retentions. The RRt of sterols relative to cholesterol and cholestane, stearyl acetates to cholesteryl acetate, estrogen derivatives to cholestane, estrogen TMS ether to cholestane on various packed columns was described by Heftman. The RRt of some estrane, androstane, and pregnane derivatives was also reported. ... [Pg.1532]

Figure 14.24 shows a comparison of two nanoemulsions based on polydecene, a highly insoluble nonpolar oil and PPG-15 stearyl ether which is relatively more polar. Polydecene gave a low Ostwald ripening rate of 6.4 X 10 m s which was one order of magnitude lower than that of PPG-15 stearyl ether (5.5 x 10 m s ). [Pg.296]
