OCT polymer

Usually, tissue blocks are held by an optimum cutting temperature (OCT) polymer, but tissues should not be embedded into such polymer reagent because any residual polymer on the tissue slices degrade the mass spectra for both protein and small molecular analysis [10] (see Note 1). [Pg.64]

FIGURE 3.29 Residual OCT polymer on the tissue slices degrades the mass spectra. A. Decrease in detection sensitivity of the ions originating from proteins due to contamination with OCT. OCT adhering to the tissue section diminishes the detectable peaks, (a) A case in which OCT was used only for supporting the tissue block, (b) A case in which the tissue block was completely embedded with OCT. B. Contamination with OCT leads to the presence of extremely high polymer peaks. [Pg.67]

Content of prime - tertiary peroxide groups was measured by the quantity of products of complete decay, which were measured by chromatography. It is known that the main contents in products of the complete decay of Oct-MA-TBPMM samples are acetone and 2,2-dimethylpropanol, which arise in reactions of chain fragmentation of tert-butylperoxy radical or in reaction of chain transfer of this radical. In this case the sum of acetone and 2,2-dimethylpropanol molecules is equal to the quantity of peroxide groups in polymer. As an internal standard we used chloroform. [Pg.219]

The more recently developed so-called linear low-density polyethylenes are virtually free of long chain branches but do contain short side chains as a result of copolymerising ethylene with a smaller amount of a higher alkene such as oct-1-ene. Such branching interferes with the ability of the polymer to crystallise as with the older low-density polymers and like them have low densities. The word linear in this case is used to imply the absence of long chain branches. [Pg.215]

Wide angle X-ray diffraction, WAXD, studies on the PHAs from octanoic acid (PHA-OCT), nonanoic acid (PHA-NON), and decanoic acid (PHA-DEC) showed that these polymers had the same features as synthetic comb-like polymers [54]. PHA-OCT is the most crystalline (AHm = 8.3 cal/g) and PHA-HEX (the PHA from hexanoic acid) is amorphous, while PHA-HEP (the PHA from hep-tanoic acid) has a very low degree of crystallinity (AHm= 1.3 cal/g). The degrees of crystallinity of PHA-OCT and PHA-NON were determined to be 20 and 30%,... [Pg.63]

The last work pertaining to the discovery of new catalysts is perhaps the most novel approach to be reported thus far. In one of the earliest approaches taken toward catalyst development, Menger et al. (61) attempted to find catalysts for phosphate ester hydrolysis. A series of eight functionalized carboxylic acids were attached to polyallylamine in various combinations. Each of these polymers were then treated with one of three metals, Mg2+, Zn2+, or Fe3+. The different members of each library were identified by the relative percentages of each carboxylic acid attached to the polyamine. For example, one polymer possessed 15% Oct, 15% Imi, 15% Phe, and 5% Fe3+. There is no attempt to identify the location of the various carboxylic acids in a given polymer. This approach is novel since each system consists of an ensemble of different ligands with the carboxylic acids positioned in various locations. Each polymer within a given ratio of carboxylic acids consists of a combinatorial library of potential catalysts. [Pg.465]
