Subsequently, several other companies have entered the acrylic rubber market (e.g. Thiokol, American Cyanamid, Goodyear, Polymer Corporation and US Rubber) and this has led to many technical developments. These may be categorised into the three main areas ... [Pg.417]

Already in 1955 Polymer Corporation (63) had applied for a patent on a process of treating naturally occurring polymeric substances or their derivatives with ozone containing inert gases and subsequently contacting the ozonized substrates with polymerizable monomers. In the presence of redox activators butadiene, acrylonitrile, and styrene were grafted onto cellulose, starch, casein, gelatin, and rubber. [Pg.126]

Various processes have been developed, espedally by BP Chemical, Polymer Corporation. Shell, etc., but the main industrial achievements in this area arc due to Phillips (OXD process, originally used in its Borger. Texas, plant, currently shut down) and Petrotex (Oxo —D process employed in the Tenneco fadliiies at Houston, Texas, and at the Firestone plant at Orange. Texas, etc). Figure 6.3 gives a flow sheet of the Petrotex technology. [Pg.335]

The use of initiated anionic polymerization to produce cast shapes directly from caprolactam was commercialized in the United States by the Polymer Corporation. The technology was particularly useful for the production of large pieces since the molten monomer is of low viscosity, the initial rate of increase of viscosity of the catalyzed feed Is low and the heat of polymerization is low. A similar system was commercialized In Germany by Bayer. (9)... [Pg.138]

In this section the same industrial reactor data of the Polymer Corporation, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada is used. Tables 6.27, 6.28 and 6.34 give the specification of the reactor. The feed conditions to the reactor are given in Table 6.27. Table 6.35 (columns 3 and 4) shows apparent kinetic data discussed in the previous section. These constants are not intrinsic rate constants. They were used as starting values in an iteration scheme to obtain intrinsic kinetics suitable for heterogeneous models. [Pg.453]

In 1963 both the Thiokol Corporation and American Cyanamid entered the market and they have since been joined by other manufacturers such as Goodyear, Polymer Corporation and US Rubber. This commercial activity has gone hand-in-hand with a variety of technical developments. In respect of the chemistry of these materials three particular areas may be identified ... [Pg.368]

Other tertiary recycling processes include a Ereeman Chemical Corporation process to convert PET bottles and film to aromatic polyols used for manufacture of urethane and isocyanurates. Glycohzed PET, preferably from film, since it is often lower in cost than bottles, can be reacted with unsaturated dibasic acids or anhydrides to form unsaturated polyesters. These can then be used in applications such as glass-fiber-reinforced bathtubs, shower stalls, and boat huUs. United States companies that have been involved include Ashland Chemical, Alpha Corporation, Ruco Polymer Corporation, and Plexmar. Unsaturated polyesters have also been used in polymer concrete, where the very fast cure times facilitate repair of concrete structures. Basing polymer concrete materials, for repair or precast applications, on recycled PET reportedly leads to 5 to 10 percent cost savings and comparable properties to polymer concrete based on virgin materials. However, they are still approximately 10 times tiie cost of portland cement concrete. ... [Pg.722]
