Oblong

It may occasionally happen, particularly if the solution is approaching saturation, that a small quantity of the crystalline solute separates at the top of the tube H in the zone Z, i.e, immediately above the source of the heat. This may be prevented by placing a narrow oblong piece of asbestos paper, with slots cut in each end, horizontally between the tubes H and D, the slots fitting over the lower narrow ends of the condenser C and the cup F. [Pg.445]

Square-mesh cloth is the conventional type of screen cloth, but there are many types of cloth with an oblong weave. This latter construction provides greater open area and capacity and in addition makes it possible to use stronger wire for the same size of screen opening and for the same percentage of open area. [Pg.1774]

It consists of an oblong Lothar-Meyer air-bath about 6o cms. (24 ins.) long and 15 cms. ( bins) wide. It is heated on each side by a senes of small gas jets made by peiforating an iron pipe which runs below the air-bath. The hot air passes up the space between the outside metal casing and an inner rectangular metal bos , and then clown and into the interior of the air-bath through a number of round holes at the bottom of a central... [Pg.182]

Lang-loch, n. oblong hole, slot, -mut, /. patience, forbearance, langnmd, a. ovali elliptical. [Pg.270]

The foregoing lattice is that which is found in the clathrates of hydroquinone with small molecules (C2H2, HC1, etc.). Powell24 further showed that if larger molecules are included, the hydroquinone lattice is distorted to form oblong cavities this distortion increases in the series CH3OH, S02, C02 and has become extreme for CH3CN. [Pg.7]

By the last two assumptions the theory, strictly speaking, is only applicable to the monatomic gases A, Kr, Xe, to a somewhat lesser extent to the almost spherical molecules CH4, CF4, SFe, and perhaps to nonpolar diatomic molecules. The rotation of even slightly nonspherical molecules like Q2 and N2 will not be free in the entire cavity when such a molecule comes close to the wall of its cage it will have to orient itself parallel to this wall. Furthermore, some of the cavities are somewhat oblate (cf. Section I.B), and thus the rotation of relatively large, oblong molecules may be seriously... [Pg.24]

Type Type I (flaked and/or chip), Grade A, (96% min Mg content), Grade B (86% min Mg content) Type II (oblong chip with rounded edges), 96% min Mg content Type III (atom-... [Pg.24]

Type I Mg powder shall consist of shavings, turnings, flakes, plates or any combination of these which meets the granulation requirement. Type II Mg powder shall consist of oblong chip-like particles with rounded edges. Type III Mg powder shall consist of granular or spheroidal particles... [Pg.25]

At this point, we are most interested in the size of particles and how the other factors relate to the question of size. The next most important factor is shape. Most of the particles that we will encounter are spheroidal or oblong in shape, but if we discover that we have needle-like (acicular) particles, how do we define their average diameter Is it an avereige of the sum of length plus cross-section, or what ... [Pg.207]

The leaves are simple, spiral and 4-7 cm X 5-8 mm. The blades of basal leaves are ellipticat and the cauline ones are linear-lanceolate. The inflorescence consists of numerous umbels spreading to form a large, loose panicle. The flowers are bright yellow. The achenes are oblong, brown, and prominently ribbed (Fig. 18). [Pg.45]

Vitex vestita Wallich ex Schauer, or huangmao mujing (Chinese), is a tree that grows to a height of 8 m tall in China and Southeast Asia. The stems are densely yellow-brown and pubescent. Leaves are three-foliolate the folioles are elliptic-oblong to elliptic,... [Pg.136]

The blade is pilose, elliptic-oblong or up to 15 cm long, serrate, and lobed. The influorescences are globose heads of minute white or pinkish flowers that are 4 mm long (Fig. 107). [Pg.216]

I [Tc8(/i-Br)8Br4]Br 2H20 Black oblong needle-like crystals with a square cross-section and intensive metallic lustree. Insoluble in hot HBr (concentr.). Grinding yields black powder. [Pg.212]

Conidiophores dark, erect, geniculate due to sympodial development. Conidia multiseptate, cylindrical to oblong, dark, with septal walls thickened. Conidiophores hyaline to subhyaline, hyphalike or distinct. Conidiogenous cells annellides that are cylindrical to lageniform. Conidia one to several celled (one species), hyaline to pale brown, accumulating in balls at the apices of the annellides. Phaeococcomyces synanamorph often present. [Pg.59]

The wireless pH capsule (Medtronic Inc.) is oblong in shape and contains an antimony pH electrode, a reference electrode at its distal tip, a battery, and a RF transmitter. The whole device is encapsulated in epoxy. The capsule is introduced into the esophagus on a catheter through the nose or mouth and is attached to the lining of the esophagus with a clip. The probe monitors the pH in the esophagus and transmits the information via RF telemetry at a rate of 6 per second (0.17 Hz) to a pager-sized receiver that is worn by the patient on a belt. Prior to implantation, the capsule is calibrated with its receiver in pH buffer solutions of pH 1.07 and pH 7.01 [168],... [Pg.316]
