This is an analysis frequently conducted on oil lubricants. Generally, the additive is known and its concentration can be followed by direct comparison of the oil with additive and the base stock. For example, concentrations of a few ppm of dithiophosphates or phenols are obtained with an interferometer. However, additive oils today contain a large number of products their identification or their analysis by IR spectrometry most often requires preliminary separation, either by dialysis or by liquid phase chromatography. 

The preceding information indicates the paths to follow in order to obtain stocks of high octane number by refining. The orientation must be towards streams rich in aromatics (reformate) and in isoparaffins (isomerization, alkylation). The olefins present essentially in cracked gasolines can be used only with moderation, considering their low MONs, even if their RONs are attractive. 

Table 5.10 gives octane number examples for some conventional refinery stocks. These are given as orders of magnitude because the properties can vary according to process severity and the specified distillation range. 

Hydrocracking makes very good quality diesel fuels concerning the cetane number, cold behavior, stability, and sulfur content. However this type of stock is only available in limited quantities since the process is still not widely used owing essentially to its high cost. 

Their production in a refinery begins with base stocks having narrow boiling ranges and high octane numbers iso C5 cuts (used in small concentrations because of their high volatility) or alkylates are sought for such formulations. 

In the future, European and worldwide refining should evolve toward the production of relatively high cetane number diesel fuels either by more or less deeper hydrotreating or by judicious choice of base stocks. However, it is not planned to achieve levels of 60 for the near future as sometimes required by the automotive manufacturers. 

Therapeutic foods have been developed to meet the needs of pets that have nephritic failure, allergies, thyroid problems, geriatric difficulties, and obesity. Most of these therapeutic diets are dispensed by veterinarians, though some are available in pet food outlets and human-food stores stocking pet foods. Treats are usually snacks that may be nutritionally complete or may provide a tasty morsel as a reward. The number of treat products has escalated rapidly. 

The product contains 12.6% phosphoms and has an OH number in the 450 mg KOH/g range. Fyrol 6 is used to impart a permanent Class 11 E-84 flame spread rating to rigid foam for insulating walls and roofs. Particular advantages are low viscosity, stabiHty in polyol—catalyst mixtures, and outstanding humid aging resistance. Fyrol 6 is used in both spray foam, froth, pour-in-place, and slab stock. 

Absorption. Some inks (eg, oil-based newspaper inks) dry by penetration or absorption into the pores of the printed stock, which has a blotter or sponge effect. This is accompHshed by the gross penetration of the ink vehicle into the pores of the substrate, the partial separation of the vehicle from the pigment, and the diffusion of the vehicle throughout the paper. The abiHty of an ink to penetrate into paper depends on the number and size of the air spaces present in the paper, the affinity or receptivity of the stock for the ink, and the mobiHty of the ink. 

The Stock Oxidation-Number System. Stock sought to correct many nomenclature difficulties by introducing Roman numerals in parentheses to indicate the state(s) of oxidation, eg, titanium(II) chloride for TiCl2, iron(II) oxide for FeO, titanium(III) chloride for TiCl, iron(III) oxide for Fe203, titanium(IV) chloride for TiCl, and iron(II,III) oxide for Fe O. In this system, only the termination -ate is used for anions, followed by Roman numerals in parentheses. Examples are potassium manganate(IV) for K2Mn02, potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II) for K PtCl, and sodium hexacyanoferrate(III) for Na3Fe(CN)3. Thus a set of prefixes and terminations becomes uimecessary.

In each country of the modem world, sugar production and trade play major social, pohtical, and economical roles. In order to regulate and protect export, import, stocks, subsidies, tariffs, etc, an enormous number of laws have been enacted and agreements concluded on sugar, both domestically and internationally. Machining costs (labor and overhead) in the United States have an estimated value of > 300 x 10 /yr. The cost of labor and overhead for machining is based on the estimated number of total metal-cutting machine tools in various metal-cutting industries (1). This value does not take into account the cost of raw stock (work material), cutting tools, and many other support faciUties. An estimated breakdown of cutting tool costs is given in Table 13 (172). Because of the competitive nature of these industries, most prefer to keep cost information proprietary. 

The /V-alkyl-/V-aryl- -PDAs (where the aryl is phenyl and the alkyl may be cyclohexyl, 1,3-dimethylbutyl or 1-methylethyl) ate the most widely used /)-PDAs. These derivatives reduce the rate of crack growth and also the number of cracks. The alkyl-aryl- -PDAs are in general excellent antiozonants, particularly in dynamic environments. These derivatives are destroyed only slowly by oxygen and increase the scorchiness of the stock only slightly. These are intermediate in staining among the three classes of -PDAs. 

Patis Numheting. Parts shall he completely identified with a numerical system (no alphabetical letters) to facilitate parts inventory control and stocking. Each part shall he properly identified by a separate number, and those parts that are identical shall have the same number to effect minimum spare parts inventory. 

Since it is good practice to maintain a selected inventory of spare parts for drives, economy can be achieved by standardizing conveyor drives throughout the plant. For example, intermediate speed reduction by means of V belts, sheaves or chains, and sprockets can frequently permit using the same speed-reducer size for several drives. Thus, it may be necessary to keep only one repair-stock speed reducer for a number of conveyors. 

In view of the necessity to be able to design for charge stocks of varied and not-well-characterized properties, some approximations are made. The main properties and operating variables are listed, n is the increment number of the integration and a. is the fraction decomposed to gas + gasoline.
