Number of shots

Although safety fuse is reliable and relatively constant in burning speed, a number of shots fired with this aid will naturally detonate at slightly different times. This can be an advantage, particularly if the times of detonation are varied by altering the length of safety fuse, or by ensuring... [Pg.93]

Special permitted explosives are tested under much more drastic conditions. As previously stated 1 kg of inversely-initiated explosive is fired creating a cloud of coal-dust. The number of test shots should not be less than 20. Safety in the. presence of coal-dust is also tested by a special method worked out by Cybulski, which consists in firing two charges, each weighing 1 kg, simultaneously from two opposite mortars. The distance between the mortars is 1 m. A cloud of coal-dust is obtained as described above. The charges are inversely initiated. The number of shots is 20. The test is considered exceptionally stringent. Such tests are repeated from time to time for inspection purposes. [Pg.443]

Every powder produces erosion or bore wear to some extent. After a large number of shots the wear may be considerable, especially in large guns, and this reduces their accuracy. The erosiveness of a given powder depends, first of all, on its flame... [Pg.548]

E) Bullet Impact Test Described by Colver. In the test briefly outlined by Colver(Ref l,p 647), the explosive is packed in cases which are arranged in a longitudinal row at various distances from a rifle. The minimum distance at which an expl detonates is noted as are the number of shots fired, the thickness of the layer penetrated and the velocity of the bullet. The shorter the distance and the larger the number of required shots to cause detonation, the less sensitive is the expi. Loosely-packed expls are usually more sensitive than those packed in cartridge form... [Pg.334]

VI) 3ullet Tracer Test. In this test, tracer ammo is fired from a machine gun and the number of shots failing to trace the required distance is recorded. Also are recorded the number of muzzle bursts, blinds, or other erratic function-ings(Ref ll,p 42)... [Pg.334]

The laser output intensity of the C153 and R6G ORMOSIL gels was studied as a function of the number of laser pump pulses. Both materials could be pulsed for more than 3000 shots with a reduction of the emission amplitude of about a factor of four. Specifically, the C153 gel laser intensity decreased by a factor of 6 after more than 6000 pulses of 500 MW/cmA The plot of the intensity versus number of shots has a double exponential decay. This phenomenon is not yet completely understood, but it could be associated with microscopic phase separation in the medium. The R6G decay plot shows that the intensity undergoes a 90% reduction after 5300 laser pulses. [Pg.544]

Probability density functions, or histograms, of the product of instantaneous temperature x velocity were obtained through use of this combustion probe system for a variety of downsteam and radial flame test positions. A typical histogram is shown in Fig. 3, while Fig. 4 displays the same data (as well as data for a test position further downsteam) in a "scattergram" format i.e., in a plot of velocity vs. temperature. Here, each datum corresponds to a specific shot, while the histogram bins correspond to integrated results from numbers of shots. [Pg.242]

In the self-loading system the block or slide that moves backward and forward is stopped after each cycle and stays stopped until the trigger is pulled again. This mechanism can be modified so that the firearm continues to fire until either the ammunition is expended or the trigger released (automatic fire). Some firearms incorporate a selector lever, which allows them to deliver either a single shot or a burst of a preset number of shots, or to become fully automatic. [Pg.31]

Repeated firings with the same gun do not necessarily yield progressively increasing levels of residue nor does the same gun/ammunition combination firing the same number of shots under apparent similar conditions necessarily yield comparable levels of residue.176... [Pg.129]

Once the desired amount of substrate to be added is estimated, step 86, the system then determines the number of shots to be added. If the shortage of ethanol in the fermenter is greater than 2/3 of a shot, it is added if not then the shot is not added, steps 100-111. Any excess added is calculated and the program continues by updating the permanent disc files with the newly calculated values of the appropriate variables. When this is done, the program returns at the next time intervals, either in 2 or 5 minutes, to the beginning of the control subroutine. [Pg.357]

Caseless ammunition is also available for infantry weapons as the ejector mechanism can be dispensed with, it is possible to raise the number of shots in machine guns. [Pg.111]

Number of shots that propagated a steady wave/number of distinct diameters at which observations were made. [Pg.282]

At Kanda Port, the DAVINCH DV45 processed two Yellow bombs per shot with an average cycle time of 150 minutes, or 3.2 shots per 8-hour day. Over a 3.5-month period, 600 bombs were destroyed in 250 shots an average of 2.4 bombs per shot. Assuming a 22-working-day month, the average number of shots per day was 250/(3.5 x 22) = 3.25, consistent with the 150-minute cycle time per shot. [Pg.59]

This is tested by reference to the number of shots required to initially prime the pump, and the loss of prime during a typical user test (i.e., the pump should not require repriming during normal daily use). If the product is only used intermittently, then repriming may be required. [Pg.505]

Weight loss from the bottle is important in two respects. First, loss of water vapour will affect the concentration of all the formulation ingredients, and second, the fill volume will need adjustment to ensure there are sufficient initial contents to guarantee delivery of the stated number of shots during the whole of the shelf life of the product. [Pg.505]

This is calculated taking into account the label claim (number of doses), the upper limit of dose delivered for each actuation, the number of shots required to prime the pump, the moisture loss through the pack life and the residual volume (ullage) remaining in the bottle at the end of life (affected, for example, by the positioning of the dip tube relative to the bottom of the bottle). [Pg.505]
