Notifiable electrical work

Electrical work carried out by DIY homeowners will still be permitted after the introduction of Part P. Those canying out notifiable DIY work must first submit a building notice to the Local Authority before the work begins. The work must then be carried out to the standards set by the lET Wiring Regulations BS 7671 and a building control fee paid for such work to be inspected and tested by the Local Authority. 

Exception to paragraph (f)(6) Scaffolds and materials may be closer to power lines than specified above where such clearance Is necessary for performance of work, and only after the utility company, or electrical system operator, has been notified of the need to work closer and the utility company, or electrical system operator, has deenergized the lines, relocated the lines, or Installed protective coverings to prevent accidental contact with the lines. 

Under "The Electric Utilities Industry Law", utility companies are obliged to obtain the approval of work plan by MITI or to notify MITI when they perform modification of the existing nuclear power plants in Japan. 

Electric burns, and electric shock combined with burns, account for most of the work-related reported electrical accidents. Electric shocks on their own, although very common occurrences, are infrequently notified to the enforcement authorities. This is because an electric shock injury only needs to be reported if it results in death or unconsciousness, or in the injured person being detained in hospital for 24 hours or longer, or in the person... 

In the UK, the type testing and certification work has been carried out by the Electrical Equipment Certification Services (EECS), which is part of HSE, and by SIRA Test and Certification Ltd. The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 1996 will change this, because they introduce a legal requirement for compliance with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs) and the application of the CE mark using the applicable conformity assessment procedures, which may involve the participation of a notified body.
