No-touch

Forty-six case studies of hydrate plug formation and remediation are recorded in Hydrate Engineering (Sloan, 2000). In every case, hydrate plugs were remediated. In addition, a rule of thumb is that most of the offshore flowline shut-ins are less than the 10 h no touch time, which requires no antihydrate operation before restart (J.E. Chitwood, Personal Communication, August 1, 2003). However, hydrate prevention methods are very expensive, as shown in the above Canyon Express and Ormen Lange examples, or in the fact that deepwater insulation costs are typically U.S.Sl million per kilometer of flowline. 

Another example is the application of the Jones-Marres silver method for rapid staining of fungi in the brain tissue of immunocompromised patients (Boon et al., 1998). This procedure can be carried out using the MicroMED BASIC microwave lab station (Milestone, s.r.l., 24010 Sorisole, Italy). The lab station has software for reliable control of power, time, and temperature using infrared temperature control for no-touch temperature determination. It also has a 360-degree rotation carousel (no hot spots) and produces printouts of the temperature and power levels used during various microwave steps.

The samples are completely immersed in the liquid, with no touching of the sides or bottom. Laboratory glass beads will assist with this. If the test is carried out near the boiling point of the liquid, it must be carried out in a container that is fitted with a reflux condenser.

The wound should be debrided and excised as usual, maintaining a no-touch technique. Removed fragments of tissue should be dropped into a container of 5% to 10% hypochlorite. Bulky tissue such as an amputated limb should be placed in a plastic or rubber bag (chemical proof), which is then sealed.14... 

On a sheet of fresh aluminum foil, use a no touch technique to cut NescoFilm coverslips to the approximate size of the tissue sections using clean scissors and pointed forceps. The surface applied to the hybridization buffer should touch nothing once it has been peeled from the backing paper. 

No-touch freight — While some female drivers may pride themselves on being able to unload a trailer as adeptly as any man, if you have no-touch freight, or primarily drop-and-hook loads, your company may appeal to women who want to be drivers — not driversdumpers. 

Manicurists should be aware of the sensitizing potential of the mono(meth)acrylates and use no-touch techniques for the skin before the acrylates become polymerized (Kanerva et al. 1996). Occupational sensitization has not been commonly reported. Hemmer s group (1996) estimated that only 10-15% of the reported cases of acrylic nail allergy were occupation-ally related, in contrast to dentistry, where most cases are occupational. They postulate that sensitization is not primarily caused by the uncured gel or monomer but by the remaining monomers in the cured plastic nail and the filing dust that is produced when the nail is smoothed or polished . 

Good work practices. Keep dispenser bottles closed. Soaked gauze should be disposed of in sealed bags. Wash exposed skin several times each day to remove dust. Adopt a no-touch system with liquid monomers.
