Rubber boots may contain N-isopropyl-N -phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (IPPD), chemically related compounds and mercury compounds which are used for preservation of plasticizers (Cronin 1980 Koch and Nickolaus 1996 Nishioka et al. 1996). Occupational sensitizations to phthalates and coal tar were observed in a factory producing shoes from polyvinyl chloride granulate in former Yugoslavia. Both substances were present in the granulate (Vidovic and Kansky 1985). 

Manicurists should be aware of the sensitizing potential of the mono(meth)acrylates and use no-touch techniques for the skin before the acrylates become polymerized (Kanerva et al. 1996). Occupational sensitization has not been commonly reported. Hemmer s group (1996) estimated that only 10-15% of the reported cases of acrylic nail allergy were occupation-ally related, in contrast to dentistry, where most cases are occupational. They postulate that sensitization is not primarily caused by the uncured gel or monomer but by the remaining monomers in the cured plastic nail and the filing dust that is produced when the nail is smoothed or polished .

This quinone is the main allergen of Machaerium scleroxylum (Santos rosewood, Pao ferro, Caviuna vermelha, Santos palissander). Occupational sensitization mainly concerns woodworkers. 

Hydrazine sulphate, hydrobromide and hydrochloride have been reported to be occupational sensitizers, mainly in soldering flux.
