The influence of room transverse cross-section configuration on airflow patterns created by air jets supplied through round nozzles in proximity to the ceiling was studied by Baharev and Troyanovsky and Nielsen (see Fig. 7.37). Based on experimental data, they concluded that when the room width B is less than 3.5H, the jet attaches to the ceiling and spreads, filling the whole width of the room in the manner of a linear jet. The reverse flow develops under the jet. When B > 4H, the reverse flow also develops along the jet sides. Baharev and Troyanovsky indicated that air temperature and velocity distribution in the occupied zone is more uniform when the jet develops in the upper zone and the occupied zone is ventilated by the reverse flow. Thus, they proposed limiting room width to 3-3.5H,. [Pg.478]

Beyer (B8) has recently reported experimental data obtained in small test motors under atmospheric and altitude conditions. At atmospheric pressure, his results showed the observed ignition delay to be a function of the delivery rate, as shown in Fig. 10. Additional data obtained in small test motors by Fullman and Nielsen (F6) are shown for comparison. These latter investigators conducted studies on the effects of various injectors, with delivery from both the head end and the aft end. Their results indicate that the hollow-cone injector is the most efficient. This subject has been treated in more detail by Miller (M7). [Pg.24]

X-ray diffraction has been applied to spread monolayers as reviewed by Dutta [67] and Als-Nielsen et al. [68], The structure of heneicosanoic acid on Cu and Ca containing subphases as a function of pH has been reported [69], as well as a detailed study of the ordered phases of behenic acid [70], along with many other smdies. Langmuir-Blod-gett films have also been studied by x-ray diffraction. Some recent studies include LB film structure just after transfer [71], variations in the structure of cadmium stearate LB films with temperature [72], and characterization of the structure of cadmium arachidate LB films [73], X-ray [74,75] and neutron reflectivity [76,77] data on LB films can be used to model the density profile normal to the interface and to obtain values of layer thickness and roughness. [Pg.69]

The dependency of rate of precipitation of barite from aqueous solution on time at room temperature studied by Nielsen (1958) suggests that the precipitation of barite from solutions of high levels of supersaturation (i.e., more than 30 as saturation index (S.I.) which is defined as the ratio, where A sp is the solubility... [Pg.74]

Spinels. There are limited experimental data on uranium and thorium partitioning between magnetite and melt (Nielsen et al. 1994 Blundy and Brooker 2003). Both studies find U and Th to be moderately incompatible. Blundy and Brooker s results for a hydrous dacitic melt at 1 GPa and 1025°C give Du and D h. of approximately 0.004. The accuracy of these values is compromised by the very low concentrations in the crystals and the lack of suitable SIMS secondary standards for these elements in oxide minerals. Nonetheless, these values are within the range of Djh of magnetites at atmospheric pressure 0.003-0.025 (Nielsen et al. 1994). It is difficult to place these values within the context of the lattice strain model, firstly because there are so few systematic experimental studies of trace element partitioning into oxides and secondly because of the compositional diversity of the spinels and their complex intersite cation ordering. [Pg.112]

Aromatic amines, Sulfuric acid Nielsen, A. T. etal., J. Org. Chem., 1980, 45, 2341-2347 The acid, prepared from 90-98% hydrogen peroxide and oleum or 100% sulfuric acid, is one of the most powerful known oxidants and its use for oxidising aromatic amines to nitro compounds has been studied. Some mono- di- and tri-amines are destroyed exothermically with violent fume-off. Precautions for use are detailed. [Pg.1652]
