Not only complexes but also metal salts that complex with the compounds to be separated can be used as selective complexing stationary phases. For example, Phillips [91] described the use of zinc and copper stearates and nickel oleate for the selective separation of amines. The retentions of aliphatic amines decrease in the order primary > secondary > tertiary. The separation of 7-picoline and 2,6-lutidine on a zinc stearate column is possible if the column efficiency is only 4 theoretical plates and the column is 1 cm long. Liquid-phase selective hydrogenation of ethyl linolate to ethyl oleate has been carried out on nickel catalysts supported on sepiolite as well as on several different supports. The influence of metal loading and Ni-Cu alloying has been studied as well. The results indicate that catalytic activity and selectivity correlate closely with some textural and/or acid-base properties of the support and selectivity increases with metal loading. Nickel soaps are produced after methods 1, 2 a and 3 and are neutral to weakly alkaline. The stearates [2223-95-2] and oleates [23250-73-9] act as dryers in ->coatings and as oil-soluble - hydrogenation catalysts (e.g., in fat hardening) that liberate finely dispersed Ni upon heating and decomposition. They serve also as stabilizers against resinilication in - lubricants. [Pg.188]
