Neville method

It is possible to demonstrate that the series of predictions obtained with the Romberg method coincide with the predictions of the Neville method (VoL 2, Buzzi-Ferraris and Manenti, 2010b) adapted to the case of z = 0 the polynomial as a function of and the next points are obtained by continuously halving the step. 

Since the polynomial is useful to predict the point t = tj+i where y = 0, the Neville method, which does not require any parameter estimation, can be adopted (see Buzzi-Ferraris and Manenti, 2010b). 

An inverse interpolation can be effectively exploited using a rational function rather than a polynomial and the Bulirsch-Stoer algorithm rather than the Neville method. 

Chlorocyclobutanecarboxylic acid has been prepared from the rather inaccessible 3-hydroxy-l,l-cyclobutanedicarboxylic acid.4 The related 3-bromocyclobutanecarboxylic acid has also been prepared by a long synthetic scheme of eight steps.5 The present method, based upon the procedure of Nevill, Frank, and Trepka,6 affords the 3-chloro acid in high yield in one step. Thus this method provides a compound which cannot be easily made by other methods. 

Fundamental reaction mechanisms of epoxy cure have been fully investigated in the literature with the work of Lee and Neville being the reference of choice [2]. Recent studies focusing on fundamental reactions of epoxy and various hardeners have been performed using NMR and NIR/FTIR methods in the works of many researchers [86-95]. Mechanisms and kinetics of various epoxy systems has been evaluated and tabulated by Mijovic et al. and others [96, 97].

Silver isocyanate is prepared by the method of Neville and McGee.6 The material obtained from this preparation should be thoroughly dried in a vacuum desiccator over P4Oi0 for at least 2 days before use.

A number of experimental alternatives to traditional IR transmission spectroscopy are suitable for overcoming some of these complicating experimental factors. In the technique of diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) (Hartauer et al. 1992 Neville et al. 1992) the sample is dispersed in a matrix of powdered alkali halide, a procedure which is less likely to lead to polymorphic transformations or loss of solvent than the more aggressive grinding necessary for mull preparation or pressure required to make a pellet (Roston et al. 1993). For these reasons, Threlfall (1995) suggests that DRIFTS should be the method of choice for the initial IR examination of polymorphs. He has also discussed the possible use of attenuated total reflection (ATR) methods in the examination of polymorphs and provided a comparison and discussion of the results obtained on sulphathiazole polymorphs from spectra run on KBr disks, Nujol mulls and ATR. 

The method of Neville and Gorin —allowing glycine to react with hexaamminecobalt(III) chloride in a boiling aqueous potassium hydroxide solution under reflux—favors formation of the fac isomer. 

At present three monosulphonic acids have been obtained from a-naphthol, but the constitution of only one of these is knowTi with any degree of certainty. This is the aa-acid prepared by Nevile and "V inther, and studied more closely by Witt. It is obtained by decomposition of the diazo-compound of naphthionic acid with water, and from its method of formation is constituted according to the formula ... 

The use of NIR, in the study of epoxy curing, is also discussed in Lee and Neville s Handbook of Epoxy Resins. The NIR method was selected for this study due to its speed and ease of use.

It is useliil to multiply the estimation by a safety coefficient (i.e., 5). If extrapolation techniques are adopted, it is possible to estimate the error by calculating the difference between the predictions obtained with the Bulirsch-Stoer algorithm (or Neville, alias the Romberg method) using different support points, and hence different T... 

Once the value of is calculated for different Hn, an extrapolation for A = 0 is performed. For the extrapolation, we can use a polynomial approximation with the Neville algorithm, which is equivalent to the Richardson extrapolation for this specific case, or better still, a rational function using the Bulirsch-Stoer algorithm. The convergence of the method can be assessed by comparing the two different values of the extrapolation.
