Neonatal complications

The data are compatible with the dopamine, glutamate and neurodevelopmental hypotheses as well as with schizophrenia comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, viral infections, neonatal complications and hyperhomocysteinemia. [Pg.286]

Paroxetine use late in pregnancy may be associated with higher risk ot neonatal complications, including respiratory distress... [Pg.355]

Antenatal indometacin therapy has been extensively reviewed (SEDA-18, 102). Data from a retrospective cohort study of 57 premature infants, bom between the 24th and 30th weeks of gestation, whose mothers had been treated unsuccessfully with indometacin for preterm labor, confirmed several fetal and neonatal complications (52). However, the overall results provided inconclusive or contradictory data on the benefit to harm balance of indometacin as a tocolytic agent or as treatment for hydramnios (SEDA-18,102). [Pg.1742]

HIV infection, immunization, 12.269 intensive care, muscle relaxants, 19.140 neonatal complications, indometadn, 18.102 ocular drugs, 22.507 old age, vitamins, 22.431 preterm infants, beta-lactam antibiotics, 21.258... [Pg.1125]

Complications Epididymitis and chronic prostatitis (uncommon) Male infertility (decreased sperm motility and viability) Pelvic inflammatory disease and associated complications (i.e., ectopic pregnancy, infertility) Premature labor, premature rupture of membranes, and low-birth-weight infants (risk of neonatal infections is low) Cervical neoplasia... [Pg.519]

Neonatal Cocaine freely crosses the placental barrier, and prenatal exposure to cocaine alters neurobehavioral development in rat pups (Sobrian et al. 1990). The effects on humans exposed prenatally to cocaine is a complicated matter, because so many other concurrent factors contribute to development. Common confounds are prenatal care and maternal polydrug use. Prenatal cocaine use is associated with reduced gestational age, birth weight, body length, and head circumference (Richardson et al. 1999). In children exposed prenatally to cocaine, some studies have shown behavioral differences evident at 1 to 3 years of age (Richardson et al. 1993 Richardson 1998). Associations are also made with impulsivity and attention deficits at age 6 (Leech et al. 1999). [Pg.138]

Changes in pharmacodynamics further complicate the pharmacology of many drugs in the neonate and infant. The blood-brain barrier is poorly developed, allowing more rapid transfer of drugs into the central nervous system (CNS). However, the response to higher brain concentrations may be tempered by an inadequate response due to lack of receptor maturation. [Pg.284]

Gap junction conductance (gj) of neonatal rat heart cells varies with temperature (37 °C, 48.3 nS 14 °C, 21.4 nS -2°C, 17.5 nS) [Bukauskas and Weingart, 1993] so that gj has been assumed to be at least in part enzymatically controlled. Several protein kinases are known to be involved in the regulation of the gap junction channels. However, the situation is rather complicated since the same protein kinase may enhance or reduce gap junctional conductance in different tissues or in different species. Thus, generalizations should be avoided and the specific condition has to be taken into account. One of the first to be described was protein kinase A (PKA), the cAMP-dependent protein kinase, which can enhance junctional conductance in hepatocytes coupled via Cx32 and Cx26 [Saez et al., 1986, 1990]. Similarly, an increase in junctional conduc-... [Pg.35]
