National Petroleum Refiners Association publications. The NPRA publications of the U.S. International Trade Commission, at the Department of Commerce, in Washington, D.C., are the best source of monthly up-to-date production figures on many U.S. chemicals and petrochemicals. In some instances, prices are given. 

The American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufactures, AFPM, started out as the National Petroleum Association in 1902, in 1961 meiged to become the National Petroleum Refiners Association and in 1998 became the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association to reflect the important role of petrochemical manufacturers. In 2012 they became the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers [12].

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), in cooperation with the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA), has initiated a project to determine the mercury content of crude oil processed in the United States. The focus of the project is to determine the mean concentration and range of concentrations of total mercury in crude oil accurately and with statistical justification. Data generated in the project will be used to calculate the maximum potential contribution of crude oil mercury to anthropogenic mercury emissions in the United States. 

The participation and cooperation of the American Petroleum Institute (Karin Ritter) and the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (Norbert Dee) are gratefully acknowledged. The donation of crude oil samples by API and NPRA member companies is sincerely appreciated. 

A trade association can play a coordinating role by stipulating that any member has to follow certain rules and r ulations, including the adoption of security measures. For example, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has developed a code of responsible distribution, has mandated third-party auditing of code compliance, and has actually terminated membership for noncompliance. Other chemical industry associations such as the American Chemistry Council (ACC), Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA), American Petroleum Institute (API), and National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA) have member codes of conduct and can also play key roles in this regard. 

Koch was a member of the American Chemistry Council and Center for Chemical Process Safety Security Task Forces that developed a Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) criterion and methodology for the chemical industry. He is vice chairman of the Compressed Gas Association Security Committee and the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association Security Committee. Xyloflning [Xylol refining] A process for isomerizing a petrochemical feedstock containing ethylbenzene and xylenes. The xylenes are mostly converted to the equilibrium mixture of xylenes the ethylbenzene is dealkylated to benzene and ethylene. This is a catalytic, vapor-phase process, operated at approximately 360°C. The catalyst (Encilite-1) is a ZSM-5-type zeolite in which some of the aluminum has been replaced by iron. The catalyst was developed in India in 1981, jointly by the National Chemical Laboratory and Associated Cement Companies. The process was piloted by Indian Petrochemicals Corporation in 1985 and commercialized by that company at Baroda in 1991.
