There is an overview of the probe nanotechnology research in the Center of Probe Microscopy and Nanotechnology of MET (TU). We demonstrate the results in development of quasi-one-dimensional metallic and carbon electronics, carbon nanotubes production, sensor application, and graphene based nanosystem devices. [Pg.464]

In the Center "Probe Microscopy and Nanotechnology" of Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (Technical University) we started nanotechnology researches in 1985. A number of unique results, including the conductance quantization in quasi-one-dimensional molecular wires at room temperature was demonstrated. Wide area research in a creation of nanoelectronic device principles has been initiated. [Pg.464]

G.E.E. thanks the National Science Foundation for their support. G.E.T. thanks the Center for Integrated NanoTechnologies (CINT), a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) national user facility, for funding. H.H.R. thanks the NanoBiotechnology Initiative at Ohio University for funding. [Pg.520]

The last example of these small-scale trace detectors is one based on nanotechnology platform and principles. This TSA funded project with NASA Ames Research Center involves the use of carbon nanotubes (CNT) as surface sensitive trace explosives sensors. In this case, the individual molecules of an explosive vapour interact on the atomic scale with a molecule(s) from the CNT surface. Figure 8 illustrates the NASA Ames conductive CNT explosives detector the CNT bridges between the source and drain of the transistor, and the change in conductance of the CNT bridge is measured as the molecular interaction with its surface (an array of CNT wires). [Pg.298]

Charles Bauschhcher received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1976 his thesis advisor was Professor H.F. Schaefer. Charles was a postdoctoral fellow with Professor Shavitt at Battelle Memorial Institute. In 1977 he joined ICASE at NASA s Langley Research Center. In 1980 he joined NASA Ames Research Center, becoming a civil servant in 1982. His recent research interests have been astrochemistry and nanotechnology. [Pg.1224]

Alessandra Ricca received her Ph.D. in chemistry in 1993 from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Alessandra was a postdoctoral fellow at NASA Ames Research Center with Charles Bauschli-cher and a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University with Charles Musgrave. In 1998 she joined the Computational Chemistry group at NASA Ames Research Center as a Research Scientist and she is now member of the Computational Nanotechnology group at NASA Ames. Her research interests included transition metal chemistry, spectroscopy, medicinal chemistry, thermochemistry and astrochemistry. Her research efforts are currently devoted to nanotechnology. [Pg.1253]
