Mycotoxins moniliformin

A number of emerging methods such as fluorescence polarization immunoassays, dipsticks, or even newer methods such as biosensors have been used for rapid screening of mycotoxin (ochratoxin A and Fusarium toxins—funionisms (FBs), moniliformin (MON), zearalenone (ZON), and type-A and -B trichothecenes in foods, fodders, blood, urea, and tissues of pigs after slaughter) (Curtui et al. 2001 Krska et al., 2007).

The Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) (http //www.efsa.europa.eu/en/panels/contam.htm) deals with contaminants in the food chain. Scientific opinions on health risks are prepared by this panel. It is anticipated that the number of mycotoxins with regulatory status will increase in the future. Other Fusarium mycotoxins with possible regulatory interest in the future are fusarenone-x (an acetylated form of nivalenol), fusarin C, enniatins, beauvericin, diacetoxyscirpenol and moniliformin. Sulyok et al. [113] reported the first validated method for the determination of 39 mycotoxins in wheat and maize by liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization-triple quadmpole mass spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS/MS) without the need for any cleanup. The 39 analytes included A and B trichothecenes (including deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside), ZEN and related derivatives, fumonisins, enniatins, ergot alkaloids, ochratoxins, aflatoxins, and moniliformin, and six trichothecene mycotoxins (NIV, DON, fusarenon-X, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, and T-2 toxin).
