Multiple targets

For many reasons it may not be possible or desirable to drill a vertical well. There may be constraints because of the surface location. In the subsurface, multiple targets, the shape of the structure, faults, etc. may preclude a vertical well. Figure 3.14 shows some of the deviated we//trajectories freguently used in industry deviated with tangent to target, S-shaped and horizontal.

Beyond Viagra, there are a number of other PDE inhibitors that are used clinically. In fact, the classic drugs papaverine and dipyridamole were used clinically before their effects on PDEs were known. Caffeine and theophylline (a compound found in tea) are also PDE inhibitors. However, all of these drugs most likely have multiple targets, making conclusions regarding the roles of PDEs in processes that are sensitive to these agents difficult to interpret. Certainly, some of their effects are due to their actions on adenosine receptors. 

DNA arrays certainly offer an extremely high degree of multiplex capability for testing for multiple targets simultaneously in confirmatory assays. As the methods for detecting hybrids on the arrays improve, perhaps it will be possible to eliminate the requirement for PCR. Specific membrane components must be delivered to their sites of utilization and not left at inappropriate sites [3]. Synaptic vesicles and other materials needed for neurotransmitter release should go to presynaptic terminals because they serve no function in an axon or cell body. The problem is compounded because many presynaptic terminals are not at the end of an axon. Often, numerous terminals occur sequentially along a single axon, making en passant contacts with multiple targets. Thus, synaptic vesicles cannot merely move to the end of axonal MTs. Targeting of synaptic vesicles thus becomes a more complex problem. Similar complexities arise with membrane proteins destined for the axolemma or a nodal membrane.

Moshe Weiss [25] developed an extension of CAGO-CFAR to get better performance in multiple target situations and designed cell averaging CFAR with smallest of (CASO-CFAR) procedures and analysed the performance especially in multiple target situations. 

The general idea of an ordered statistic is technically simple. To estimate the average noise and clutter power a single rank X(fc) of the ordered statistic is used instead of the arithmetic mean. In this case a very few large amplitudes in the sliding window have a very small effect on the estimation result. OS-CFAR is robust in multiple target situations. The threshold is hardly influenced by a second or third target inside the window. 

The importance of this case is that OS-CFAR can be analytically analysed without any approximations. Furthermore the resulting scaling factor Tos is completely independent of p. Figure 14 shows the typical behaviour of OS-CFAR in clutter edge and multiple target situations. The threshold follows the clutter contour with a certain safety distance. In two target situations the threshold is more or less unchanged compared with a pure noise situation.
