Multi shielding

The value of k is determined experimentally by gas temperature measurement. The measurement error of a simple pyrometer can be 250 to 300 K, due to re-radiation to water-cooled surroundings, and the values given below are based on measurement by a Land multi-shielded high-velocity suction pyrometer. Typical values for normal excess air at or near full boiler load are ... [Pg.347]

Thus you can use different sized transformers to deliver the same power, however, please note that heavy DC amps require multi-strand heavy duty cables on the one side (due to heating) and high voltage lines can arc all over the place thus require proper shielding like those used in racing or high performance cars. [Pg.33]

Transition metal ions have an incompletely filled d-shell, i.e. their electron configuration is d". The optically active electrons are thus bound to central potential as well as experiencing crystal field potential, and are not shielded by outer electrons. Most transition metal ions are multi-valent. Mainly the number of 3d electrons and the crystal field determine their optical properties. Thus the groups below have similar optical behavior ... [Pg.168]

Figure 21 Effect of macroscopic orientation on 3,P NMR spectra of PL membranes. (A) Multi-lamellar PL vesicles yield 31P NMR spectra that are characterised by an axially symmetric shielding tensor. If lamellar lipid membranes are oriented between glass plates, a single 3,P NMR signal is obtained for any given orientational angle between the membrane normal and the external magnetic field B0. 31P NMR spectra for (B) perpendicular and (C) parallel orientations are shown. Taken from Ref. [86]. Figure 21 Effect of macroscopic orientation on 3,P NMR spectra of PL membranes. Infrared spectra of vibronic excitations in metals are not observed because of the strong shielding effect of free carriers. Raman spectra of conventional two-atomic or multi-atomic metals, such as Zn (Fraas and Porto, 1970) and V3Si (Klein and Dierker, 1984), have been reported, but failed to gain importance. [Pg.401]

The NAA method can be divided into NAA (Instrumental NAA) and RNAA (Radiochemical NAA). In the latter, the various neutron-induced products are separated chemically to minimize interferences. There are several comprehensive review papers on INAA published in the literature 1,2,3,4). Briefly, the basic parameters controlling sensitivity for a multi-element determination are neutron flux, irradiation time, delay interval prior to counting, half-life and gamma-ray energy of the induced activity, and eflBciency and resolution of the detector. Table I outlines the irradiation parameters used for each of the two sequential irradiations. The final count occurring 40-50 days after the second irradiation is performed on an anti-coincidence-shielded Ge(Li) system developed recently in our laboratory. [Pg.256]
