Some clinicians contend that the combination of psychomerapy with an antidepressant is more effective than either treatment alone. Although plausible, objective data to verify mis assumption is not yet available. It is merefore recommended that patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms be treated with time-limited psychotherapy alone, while mose with severe symptoms risking medical compromise and those wim comorbid depression or OCD receive the combination of psychotherapy and antidepressant medication. 

The first-line medication for the treatment of BN will usually be a SSRI of which fluoxetine is the best studied. Aimough most antidepressants effectively treat BN at doses comparable to mose routinely used to treat depression, fluoxetine is considerably more effective at 60mg/day than lower doses.

As organochlorine pesticides fell into disfavor the use of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) multiplied and with them a concomitant and increase in morbidity and mortality—particularly among sprayers and farm workers. The OPPs—especially Parathion and Phosdrin—account for more deaths than any other class of pesticides (Moses, ref. 164). OPPs are acetylcholinesterase inhibitors with potentially disabling neurotoxic effects. 

Some human studies have reported effects on the central and peripheral nervous systems shortly after exposure to high levels of 2,3,7,8-TCDD (Filippini et al. 1981 Moses et al. 1984 Pazderova-Vejlupkova et al. 1981 Pocchiari et al. 1979 Suskind 1977). However, follow-up studies did not find neurological effects years after exposure termination (Barbieri et al. 1988), suggesting that the effects may be transient. No human studies examined the effect of 2,3,7,8-TCDD on the developing neurologic system.
