Among various foods, grains, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and tea are often monitored for pesticide POPs. Currently, only HCH (including a-HCH, (3-HCH, and y-HCH) and DDT (including... [Pg.195]

Since the concentration of the insecticides in the spiking solution is determined by gas chromatography, a cumulative error can occur. At concentrations below one part per billion, the variations observed are not considered unreasonable. Considering the factors involved in monitoring waters for various pesticides, variations observed at these low concentrations can readily occur. [Pg.206]

Pubhc concerns about pesticides in the diet of infants and children resulted in an expert committee convened by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences which devoted four years to the review of all available data. A consensus report was issued in 1993 (80). A number of recommendations for further work to more precisely define what constitutes the diet of infants and children were made. No risk could be estimated. The residue data reviewed by the panel were mainly from monitoring studies conducted by the PDA using multiresidue methods to analyze fresh produce and market basket samples collected from various geographic areas (81,82). These and other rehable scientific studies have demonstrated that relatively few food samples contain detectable residues. Most residues are far below estabhshed tolerances which are set above the maximum residue found in treated raw agricultural... [Pg.150]

In order to ascertain the degree of accomplishment of the aforementioned Directive 2006/118/EC in Catalonia (NE, Spain) and better characterise the nature of the contamination of these aquifers by pesticides, a monitoring programme was carried out on various selected hydrological units intended to be among the most vulnerable and relevant ones because of intensive agricultural activity and use for human consumption. The number of aquifers analysed depends more or less on the extension of the groundwater body. Eor example, bodies M46 and M21 present extensions of 18 and 72 km, respectively, and just one and two aquifers of each body were analysed, respectively. In contrast, body Ml8 (Maresme) presents an extension of more than 400 km, and nine different aquifers were analysed. [Pg.380]
