Mold types Compression

Process used provides different control capabilities. As an example closed molding (injection, compression, etc.) provides fine detail on all surfaces. Open molding (blow molding, thermoforming, spray-up, etc.) provides detail only on the one side in contact with the mold, leaving the second side free-formed. Continuous production (extrusion and pultrusion) yields products of continuous length. Hollow (rotational or blow) produces hollow products. These processes can be used creatively to make different types of products. For example, two molded or thermo-formed components can be bonded together to form a hollow product, or they can be blow molded. [Pg.442]

Tablets Dosage forms prepared by molding or compressing medicinal substances in dies. Tablets vary widely in shape, the most common form being discoid, and range from 0.06 to 0.60 g in weight. Jean de Renou applied the Latin word tabella to a special type of troche in 1608 Burroughs Wellcome Company coined the term tablet in 1878 to refer to its brand... The basic types of mold, regardless of whether they are compression, injection, transfer, or even blow molds, are usually classified by the type and number of cavities they have. For example, Figure 2.1 illustrates three mold types (a) single-cavity, (b) dedicated multiple-cavity, and (c) family multiple-cavity. [Pg.156]

For the basic compression, transfer, and injection molding processes, a wide variety of mold types may be considered. Decisions as to the optimum type will often be based on the production volume anticipated and the allowable final part cost, including mold maintenance and amortization costs and hourly cost rates for molding machine and labor. [Pg.469]

The most important properties besides uniform structure and freedom from defects in selecting a steel for molds are compressive strength, harden-ability, machinability, stability in hardening, and polishability. In the majority of cases, it is possible to work vdth three basic types of mold steel, namely, AISIP20, AISI H13, and AISI01. [Pg.330]

Data relating to the diffusivity and solubUity of methanol in blends of polyether-sulfone (PES) and a type of LCP, poly(hydroxyl-benzoic add (73 mol%)-co-hydroxy-naphthoic add (27 mol%)) have been reported by Wiberg et cd. [69]. Samples were taken from injection-molded and compression-molded specimens over a wide range of compositions. The solubility of methanol was proportional to the PES content. Values beyond 40% LCP were not available because of the low methanol diffusion in blends with a high LCP content consequently, the LCP phase... [Pg.441]

The manufacture of WPCs is comprises two steps blending raw materials and making composites blends into a product [32]. Raw materials can be mixed in either batch or continuous mixers. The forming techniques include extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding. However, some factors, such as fiber type, fiber content, fiber orientation, moisture content of fiber, should be taken into consideration when choosing the suitable manufacturing process [33]. [Pg.305]
