Injection molding compression

Process used provides different control capabilities. As an example closed molding (injection, compression, etc.) provides fine detail on all surfaces. Open molding (blow molding, thermoforming, spray-up, etc.) provides detail only on the one side in contact with the mold, leaving the second side free-formed. Continuous production (extrusion and pultrusion) yields products of continuous length. Hollow (rotational or blow) produces hollow products. These processes can be used creatively to make different types of products. For example, two molded or thermo-formed components can be bonded together to form a hollow product, or they can be blow molded. [Pg.442]

Injection-compression molding first injects the material into a partially opened mold, and then squeezes the material by closing the mold. Injection-compression molding is used for polymer products that require a high quality surface finish, such as compact discs and other optically demanding components because it practically eliminates tangential molecular orientation. [Pg.150]

Injection compression molding minimizes molded-in stress but requires longer cycle times than injection molding and produces flash. Amino resins are fabricated principally by transfer and compression molding. Injection molding and extrusion are used on a limited scale. Urea resins are not recommended for outdoor exposure. The resins show rather high mold shrinkage and some shrinkage with age.
