This results in a relaxation of the macromolecules (memory effect). The rate of relaxation is highly temperature-dependent. If the form of the part is to be retained, storage in forced molding must be used. Otherwise, a shape change takes place that is known as back-shrinking. In practice, forced molding storage can only be used in special cases because of the costs involved. In actual fact, there is no (affordable) method available to eliminate molecular orientations.

Different molds are often operated on one manufacturing unit, since the demand for parts does not use the full capacity of the machine. Thus, for the production, there is the decision to disarm the moid after the production order and then to transport it into central mold storage (Figure 5.43) or to keep it iocaiiy at the production line. In the latter case, the inspection must then be carried out in the production. 

Cost optimization demands a rethinking of the central mold storage. The result of an internal setup workshop may not always result in a reduction in setup times when the molds are stored on the machine. So it may be that the optimal production batch is a daily production of only a few hours. Therefore, it makes sense to store the molds at the production machines. In future mold management, the production site will be increasingly used as storage space. 

A good mold-control system starts with proper inventory control and adequate mold storage facilities. Documentation is the key word. From the inception of the mold, every little detail regarding the particulars of the mold must be logged. A mold information form such as the one shown in Figure 16-13 can be used. Once... 

Biodeterioration. For objects made out of organic materials, mold and insect attack are a principal cause of damage. Microbiological organisms can also be responsible for serious deterioration of outdoor stone. Museums, especially storage areas, are quite conducive to providing the conditions in which infestations can occur. Objects are stored in close proximity, and left untouched for prolonged periods, often with Htde if any ak movement. 

Most emphasis is placed on a program of rigorous preventive maintenance. Appropriate climate conditions can help to prevent mold attack, which typically only occurs at elevated relative humidity. Storage furniture which provides an effective barrier for insects, regular inspection of the collections, monitoring of all collection areas with insect traps, and access control measures which minimize the chance of insect entry into the collection areas, are some aspects of an effective pest control management program (175). 

The reduction of water limits mold formation, but only slightly affects the aroma or pungency. The dried product maintains its character and pound for pound is stronger in aroma and flavor than the fresh spice, since a nonessential component has been substantially removed. In areas where a spice is grown, the same product that is dried for storage and shipment is often used fresh for flavoring.
