Modular software

MDL Information Systems, Inc. MDL provides modular software systems for managing chemical information, as weU as related molecular and reaction databases for use with the software. MDL s database management programs, MACCS-II and REACCS, provide access to compound and reaction databases and also have the capabiHty to manage user-created databases (37). Although MDL is not considered to be an on-line database vendor, it is mentioned here because of the value of its information products and services to the chemical industry. 

Separating the data transformation into three distinct steps enforces a completely modular software design. In practice, the data transformation is executed via command shell scripts, using freely available software for both the XSLT transformation and XSD validation. The raw data contained in the 39 surveys in the New Brunswick compilation are exported into 7,000 individual KML files, which can be viewed online at http //gdr.nrcan.gc.ca/geochem. 

Simultaneous Modular. There has been an almost continuum of architectures suggested to take advantage of the better features of sequential modular, linear and simultaneous architectures. Most of these suggestions seek to retain the calculation modules (since millions of dollars have been invested in sequential modular software) and thus the name simultaneous modular has been applied. FLOWPACK II (93) apparently has some simultaneous modular features.

While for a long time the in-house reaction-retrieval system market was dominated by REACCS and ISIS, with almost every reaction database being available in the REACCS/ISIS format, there are now a number of competitors.
