Bimane-HPLC (24) Procedures. Sediment Core Samples were Obtained from the Mission Bay °... [Pg.250]

Reduced Sulfur Compounds in Marine Sediments. To determine the applicability of the bimane-HPLC technique to measure reduced sulfur compounds in sediment porewater samples, we compared the results of the methylene blue method of Cline (26). the DTNB procedure of Ellman (28) and the bimane-HPLC procedure outlined above. Cores included came from a Spartina foliosa marsh in Mission Bay (near San Diego, California), and an evaporation pond for the production of salt in south San Diego Bay (Table I). [Pg.254]

The surveys indicate that all populations sampled are phenotypically dominant for B and P. Most populations are DD or Dd notable exceptions are the Lower Putah Populations, which have varying frequencies of dd. Pollinator preference for the dark blue flower color may account for the relatively infrequent occurrence of polymorphisms for loci affecting flower color. In contrast, the S/s locus is polymorphic in nearly all populations sampled (Tables I, II, and III), the exceptions being Mace-11, San Gregorio-1 (based on only 34 individuals, i.e., 68 s alleles) and Mission Bay-1. Populations, therefore, are generally homozygous BBPPDD and polymorphic for the alleles S and s. [Pg.78]

Universities are also beginning to provide facilities for start-ups. At the UCSF s Mission Bay campus entrepreneurs affiliated with the University can rent space in the QB3 Garage, so-called as a reminder of the garage experiments that spawned Hewlett-Packard. Leasing small amounts of hood and office space located on the campus of a major research university on a short-term basis comes with a lot of advantages, in a sense easing the transition from concept to company. ... [Pg.75]

Glenn Rick retired in 1955 and by then the river was under control and most of the initial dredging projects had been completed. By 1962 massive dredging had created the basic form and structure of the park that we see today including islands, peninsulas and coves. The project may never be completely finished since dredging for new beaches and promenades is nearly continuous. Throughout the decades there have been controversies about just what Mission Bay Park should be and just what procediues should be used to create it. [Pg.1153]

The eastern edge of Mission Bay Park is a narrow strip of land that parallels the Interstate Five freeway. Mission Bay Drive passes by a series of small green spaces and beaches as well as several major hotels. This is the Mission Bay that most commuters and visitors see when driving in or out of the city. A narrow waterway called North Pacific Passage to the east of Fiesta Island separates Fiesta Bay s motorboats from the beaches, but offers relatively few cozy coves (Fig. 65.4). [Pg.1155]

Today, Mission Bay Park is a moneymaking operation for the city. San Diego collects about 27 million a year from hotel and business leases, but it spends less... [Pg.1155]
