In the newly developed units, the dynamometer is mounted together with the high-precision electronic torque-measuring unit on a stable and distortion-free base plate. A few miscellaneous tests that fall under neither input nor output characteristics, are surveillance tests, delay times, waterproofness, workmanship, duds, tumbling and some others...

Miscellaneous tests. Treat 1 ml of the mixture with 5 per cent sodium hydroxide solution until strongly alkaline note whether an oil or solid separates, whether any ammonia is evolved and any colour changes which occur. Heat to boiling and cool compare odour with that of the original mixture (a change in odour may indicate the presence of esters). Add dilute hydrochloric acid and observe the result. 

Miscellaneous tests. Test the solubility behaviour of 0.5-1 g of the mixture to 5 per cent sodium hydroxide solution, 5 per cent sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and to 5 per cent hydrochloric acid (for details, see under Liquid mixtures).

Miscellaneous Tests. A few other test methods will be mentioned but will not be developed. Brun (307) made an extensive review of the effect of H bonds on the electrical conductivity of binary liquid mixtures. Polarographic potentials, as related to association, were studied by Holleck, Marsen, and Exner (946). Osmotic pressure measurements can detect m ramoleculau H bonding (1943), and internal H bonds can also affect optical rotatory power (1899). 

A final group of miscellaneous tests is also included, but no attempt has been made to differentiate these on the basis of the physiological responses. 

Miscellaneous Tests with Synthetic Scaling Solutions. Figure 5 shows graphically the results obtained using the following synthetic hard waters, prepared from Melbourne tap water (ca. 40 p.p.m. of total dissolved solids). 

B) Miscellaneous tests. Perform these tests with small samples of each of the four solutions above, and also with solutions of sodium dihydrogen phosphate and disodium hydrogen phosphate. Present the results in the form of a table to show the result of each test with each phosphate. 

Strictly speaking these are tests which measure the specific functions of the liver, e.g. its excretory functions (bilirubin, BSP etc.) or its synthetic function (as reflected by serum albumin levels). In practice the term is also used to include tests for liver cell damage (e.g. aminotransferases released from damaged cells), tests for cholestasis (e.g. alkaline phosphatase and 5 -nucleo-tidase) and possibly a number of other miscellaneous tests (e.g. a-fetoprotein for primary hepatoma). 

V. Distillation and Miscellaneous Tests.—Aqueous solutions should be subjected to the following distillation tests. This method of separation is particular valuable in the examination of quite dilute (1 to 5 per cent) aqueous solutions. Any individual volatile fraction may be further concentrated by redistillation.
