Miscellaneous contaminants

In some instances it may be necessary to demonstrate that all traces of specific contaminants have been removed prior to final product filling. This would be true, for example, of many proteolytic inhibitors added during the initial stages of downstream processing to prevent proteolysis by endogenous proteases. Some such inhibitors may be inherently toxic, and many could (inappropriately) inhibit endogenous proteases of the recipient patient. [Pg.199]


Technetium-99 Tc-99 is a reasonably high-yield (6%) FP (similar to Cs-137). The ratio of activities Cs-137 to Tc-99 is calculated (FISPIN) to be 6,000 to 1. Of the selected waste streams in the UK Nirex Inventory, 18 were found to exceed the GQ level for Tc-99 including HPA SPF (high uncertainty), FED and miscellaneous contaminated items (MCI), and HNA FCC, MCI and IX resin. Tc is chemically different to Cs because it will form anionic species (the pertechnetate anion, TCO4 ) whereas Cs will only form cations. All three binaphthyl-sulfone isomers (no. 92) were identified in the river water near Philadelphia. Product literature for one of the companies in the area indicates production of condensed sulfonated polymers derived from naphthalene sulfonic acid and maleic anhydride. It seems likely that the binaphthylsulfones are formed as by-products during preparation of this commercial product. [Pg.87]

Miscellaneous. Volatile nitrosamines can escape into the atmosphere from a variety of other sources. Automobile and diesel engine exhausts may contain N-nitroso compounds, including NDMA at trace levels (5). Nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEIA) is a likely air contaminant in machine shops which use cutting and grinding fluids contaminated with high concentrations of NDElA (10). Several herbicides, known to contain appreciable levels of volatile nitrosamines (9), are applied as aqueous sprays it is likely that worker exposure via inhalation may be appreciable. [Pg.251]

The HPLC-receptorgram assay combined the advantages of HPLC separation with the multiresidue detection of the Charm II tests. The procedure was tested for identification and quantitation of the most common veterinary drugs at regulatory levels or lower. It was validated for 40 individual drugs from seven antibiotic families 10 /3-lactams, 13 sulphonamides, 8 tetracyclines, 4 macrolides, 3 amphenicols, and other miscellaneous antimicrobials. This procedure combined a simple aqueous extraction and SPE with HPLC fractionation of individual drugs. Final identification and quantitation was achieved with the Charm II test. A drug contaminant could be identified in less then 3 hours (50). [Pg.631]
