Minocycline hormonal

Incompatibilities Do not mix IV minocycline before or during administration with any solutions containing the following Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), aminophylline, amobarbital sodium, amphotericin B, bicarbonate infusion mixtures, calcium gluconate or chloride, carbenicillin, cephalothin sodium, cefazolin sodium, chloramphenicol succinate, colistin sulfate, heparin sodium, hydrocortisone sodium succinate, iodine sodium, methicillin sodium, novobiocin, penicillin, pentobarbital, phenytoin sodium, polymyxin, prochlorperazine, sodium ascorbate, sulfadiazine, sulfisoxazole, thiopental sodium, vitamin K (sodium bisulfate or sodium salt), whole blood. [Pg.1582]

Minocycline, 200 mg orally daily for 5 days, can eradicate the meningococcal carrier state, but because of side effects and resistance of many meningococcal strains, rifampin is preferred. Demeclocycline inhibits the action of antidiuretic hormone in the renal tubule and has been used in the treatment of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone or similar peptides by certain tumors (see Chapter 15). [Pg.1006]

Evidence is very limited but it has been suggested that all patients given long-term minocycline treatment should be well screened for the development of pigmentation, particularly if they are taking other drugs such as the oral contraceptives that are known to induce hyperpigmentation. Remember also that very rarely contraceptive failure has been associated with the use of minocycline and other tetracyclines, see Hormonal contraceptives + Antibacterials Tetracyclines , p.983. [Pg.350]

Common medications such as oral contraceptives, hormone replacement, and minocyclines can predispose to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation after a peel. Patients taking these medications should be warned of this possibility and advised on sun avoidance after the peel and regular usage of broad-spectrum sun protection. [Pg.117]
