Mine sites maintenance

After closure, almost all mine sites will require several years of care and maintenance. Periodic inspections should be conducted to verify that all seals are intact and functioning correctly, and to ensure that water discharges are within the limits specified by the permits. It may also be necessary to clean out water diversion and containment structures, and to support revegetation by regrading, reseeding, applying fertilizer, and irrigating. 

OHS issues will certainty arise from time to time in ary workplace, and can be hartdled through the consultative process which Robens-style OHS law sets up - employers talking with health and safety representatives, or in health and safety committees, hr srrtall workplaces, or those without representatives, the employer can discuss matters one-on-one with employees. Issues onty become disputes if there is a difference between an employee s request, demand or point of view and that of the employer. The dispnte may be for a mtmber of reasons - one, of coitrse, is inabihty to pay for risk control measures. Another may be that the employer is dependent on others to implement solutions. For example, a contractor at a mine site may operate machinery belonging to the principal which needs new capital investment for safe operation rather than just maintenance. An accident make employees aware of a risk they weren t aware of before. 

Additional operations essential to commercial bauxite processing are steam and power generation, heat recovery to minimise energy consumption, process liquor evaporation to maintain a water balance, impurity removal from process liquor streams, classification and washing of ttihydrate, lime caustication of sodium carbonate [497-19-8] to sodium hydroxide [1310-73-2] repair and maintenance of equipment, rehabiUtation of mine and residue disposal sites, and quaUty and process control. Each operation in the process can be carried out in a variety of ways depending upon bauxite properties and optimum economic tradeoffs.
