Aluminum alloys are commercially available in a wide variety of cast forms and in wrought mill products produced by rolling, extmsion, drawing, or forging. The mill products may be further shaped by a variety of metal working and forming processes and assembled by conventional joining procedures into more complex components and stmctures. 

The avadabihty of prompt iadustrial scrap is directiy related to the level of iadustrial activity. Producers geaeraHy do aot accumulate prompt iadustrial scrap because of storage requiremeats and iaventory control costs. Thus, it is rapidly available to the scrap consumer or the ferrous scrap iadustry. Prompt iadustrial scrap comes from imported steel as well as domestic steel mill products. Obsolete scrap, also known as old or post-coasumer scrap, is widely used. Treads ia aew steelmaking capacity and the reduced proportions of premium scrap iadicate that use of obsolete scrap should be expected to iacrease.

AQ grades of zinc slab are used to some degree in brasses and bronzes. In many leaded brass-mill products, the lead originates from the slab zinc the accompanying cadmium is usually acceptable.

The products for these appHcations are fabricated from materials from brass mills (manufacturers of copper and alloy mill products), wire mills, and foundries (manufacturers of castings). Brass mill products consist of sheet, strip, plate, rod, bar, tube, pipe, forgings, extmsions, and mechanical wire. Wire mills make electrical wire. Foundry castings consist primarily of plumbing products and industrial valves and pumps.

The filtered dough is then returned to a mixer and the alcohol content reduced to 25% by kneading under vacuum. Further reduction in the alcohol content is brought about by rolling the compound on a hooded two-roll mill. The milled product is then consolidated on a two-bowl calender and sheeted off in hides about j in thick. At this stage the solvent content is between 12 and 16%. 

Despite the statements above, one should not conclude that additional mill productivity did not require capital investment. Removal of the pressing bottlenecks invariably moved bottlenecks upstream into the forming, drying, or flaking operations. Solutions to these problems usually required capital investment. 

Mechanical Properties. The mechanical properties used for design shall be the minimum values allowed by the applicable material specification or shall be the minimum values determined by the manufacturer in accordance with the test procedures specified in ASTM A370 Methods and Definitions for Mechanical Testing of Steel Products, or by mill certification for mill products. The yield point shall be used in lieu of yield strength for those materials exhibiting a yield point. Yield strength shall be determined at 0.2% offset.

Additional sources of the elements are tin slag and scrap. For instance, cassiterite deposits, in Australia, Brazil, Thailand and some other countries, contain a significant amount of tantalum. The bulk of this tantalum is collected in the slag and processed separately. Recycling of various tantalum-bearing scrap is also a veiy important source for tantalum production. These scrap materials include powder surplus from sintering operations, scrap from mill products, rejected and used capacitors, scrapped cutting tools and furnace hardware.
