Petrologic and SEM analyses of these clay samples reveal micro-textural and structural features and mineral association suggesting that they deposited directly from the brine in the surface facilities, and are not hydrothermal alteration minerals transported from production wells. [Pg.81]

Table V provides a general mineralogical comparison of the freshly cured jarofix products and the aged products. The aged products exhibit essentially the same micro-textures as those of the freshly cured products, but have significantly reduced amounts of Ca6Fe2(S04)3(0H)i2.nH20, residual cement and moisture. The aged products contain more gypsum, calcite and the cement reaction products, which also have elevated Zn and Mg contents. The increase in the calcite content is significant, as it implies a residual alkalinity in the jarofix products that can subsequently neutralize residual acid species if present. The products are compact, exhibiting similar micro-textures as those of the freshly cured products. [Pg.931]

The aggregates, especially the sand in the concrete exposed to traffic, should consist of hard and durable rock (not from limestone) for the achieved surface micro-texture to last. [Pg.591]

Slippery surface may result from polishing and abrasion of the surface aggregate or asphalt bleeding. Both factors reduce the macro- and micro-texture of the pavement surface and the surface skid resistance provided. [Pg.654]

Polished aggregates are aggregates that have lost their inherited surface micro-texture and angularity. [Pg.655]

The effect of the above surface texture characteristics on the skid resistance related to vehicle speed is shown in Figure 16.5. As it can be seen, as the speed increases, the surface skid resistance decreases the decrease is more distinct when the surface lacks macro-texture (curves C and D). The best skid resistance value is provided when the surface exhibits both macro- and micro-texture (curve A) and the worst is provided when the surface lacks both macro- and micro-texture (curve D). The existence of macro-texture alone provides good skid resistance (curve C) at speeds higher than 50 km/h. [Pg.716]

The surface texture (macro- and micro-texture) is expressed in terms of texture depth. Figure 16.6 shows the effect of the texture depth to the braking force coefficient (BFC) when measuring speed increased from 50 to 130 km/h (different surfacing materials were tested). [Pg.717]

The British pendulum was designed with the aim of providing a low-cost and portable apparatus for stationary measurements of slip/skid resistance of a surface in the field or in the laboratory. This test method provides a measure of frictional property, micro-texture in particular, of surfaces and may be used to determine the relative effects of various polishing processes on materials or material combinations. [Pg.728]

In the present results, it was found that elasto-plastic deformation of the GCs by indentation is very sensitive to their crystal structure and micro-texture. The elastic modulus of the GCs reduced with the elevation of HTT (Table 2). The reduction of the elastic modulus is predicted to result from not only the corresponding decrease in bulk density of GC with the elevation of HTT, but also a decrease in shear modulus (rigidity) of the carbon hexagonal network layers with development of the graphitic structure. [Pg.102]
