Cavrini et al. [32] reported the development of a colorimetric method for the determination of miconazole nitrate in pharmaceutical preparation. The method is based on the formation of a yellow complex between the drug and bromocresol green. The absorption peak of this complex, extracted by chloroform over the pH 2—4 range, was at 424 nm, and linear response was obtained from 3—13 pg/mL. The molar absorptivity of the complex in chloroform was 1.845 x 104. This procedure is suitable for the analysis of miconazole nitrate in commercial dosage forms. [Pg.41]

Piel et al. compared the intravenous pharmacokinetics of miconazole in sheep after its administration in a polyoxyl-35 castor oil/lactic acid mixture, a 100 pM hydroxylpropyl-/l-cyclodextrin-50 pM lactic acid solution, and a 50 pM sulfobutyl ether (SBE7)-/i-cyclodextrin 50 pM lactic acid solution. In the 1980s, Machida and Nagai evaluated spray dosage forms based on hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) for the delivery of beclomethasone to treat recurrent and multiple apthae. Previously a double-layered tablet of HPC and Carbopol 934P was introduced in the market for the treatment of apthous stomatitis. " Bouckaert, Lefebvre, and Remon " tested buccal tablets of miconazole based on modified starch-polyacrylic acid mixtures. Econazole. Econazole and isoconazole are structurally very similar to miconazole they differ only in the pattern of chlorine substitution on the terminal phenyl ring. Chemically, econazole (Fig. 2, 7b) is closely related to miconazole. The clinical indications are almost identical. Econazole [27220-47-9] is available as a vaginal cream and ovule containing respectively 1% and 150 mg econazole nitrate. For mycoses of the skin, several forms are available including cream, spray-powder, spray-solution, and lotion. All these formulations contain 1% econazole nitrate [68797-31-9]. The interaction between miconazole and the sulphonylureas is established and clinically important, but of uncertain incidence. Concurrent use need not be avoided but it should be monitored and the dosage of the sulphony-lurea reduced if necessary. Patients should be warned. Information about other sulphonylureas not cited is lacking but it seems possible that they may interact similarly with miconazole. [Pg.481]
