Metal working fluid biocides

Uses Biocide, preservative for aq. systems, paints/coatings, latexes, resin emulsions, pigment slurries, dispersed colors, Joint cements, adhesives, metal working fluids, textile processing sol ns. 

Balsam of Peru, 25% pet (fragrance in cosmetics) 4-tert-Butylphenol, 1% pet (metal-work fluids) Mercapto mix, 1% pet [rubber (gloves), biocide and corrosion inhibitor in metal-work fluids]... 

Zinc diethyldithiocarbamate, 1% pet [rubber (gloves), biocide in metal-work fluids]... 

Aza-5-ethyl-3,7-dioxabicyclo(3,3,o)octane (Bioban CS 1246), 1% pet [biocide, formaldehyde releaser use in metal-working fluids forbidden in Germany (Geier et al. 1996)]... 

For many technical applications like for example the preservation of water based paints or metal-working fluids, there is increasing demand in the market for a biocide with a high antibacterial activity and beneficial toxicological and ecotoxicological properties due to the fact that most of the used biocides are more or less strong sensitizers. 

Metalworking fluids contain mineral oils (refer to p. 80) or synthetic lubricants they are used neat or in admixture with water. They may contain small amounts of biocides, stabilizers, emulsifiers, coiTosion inhibitors, fragrances and extreme pressure additives. The formulations render them suitable for application to metal being worked, generally from a recirculatory system, to provide lubrication, corrosion protection, swarf removal and cooling of the tool and machined surface.
